Software install problems

My home desktop suddenly won't install any new programs. Get an error message that says the install was interrupted. Happened on 3 different software discs from 3 different mfgs.

All other programs are closed when attempting install. Have shut down and restarted computer. Have plenty of memory and disc space. Running Windows Vista on an HP.

Any suggestions?

Restart in Safe Mode and try again.
