I would just like to mention that the Cardinals management are trying to do things to improve the football team. And I am sure someone will disagree with that issue. But for crying out loud, give the team a chance, they are finally doing things differently and trying to bring in solid proven winners and all I hear is bunch of whiners........ The last time I checked, I wasn't on the Cardinal's payroll to make personel decision and I am pretty sure none of you are either..... Give the team a chance, I am actually feeling optimistic about this season.... maybe some of you should try it too, or maybe you forgot how to be positive & Optimistic:wave:

I am generally what people consider a "negative" poster and frankly I am shocked that anyone has any complaint about the Emmitt Smith signing.

How is this bad?

It's not. What bugs me is naming him the starter, again what if Shipp outplays him in camp and preseason, does that change the starter?

What if 4 weeks into next year Emmitt is averaging 3.8 YPC and Shipp 4.6 and Emmitt is still starting? That's what I'm concerned about, that this is a "we signed him so you start him" edict from above that potentially hurts the team.

Everyone blamed Hambrick in dallas but he wasn't the only one wondering why he played less than Emmitt there and we have the potential for that to happen here too(minus the bitching since Shipp is not like Hambrick). IF done correctly this is a great move, if not it could be an issue.

I agree.... this is not bad....It's a good situation, we go into camp with 2 good running backs period. How many times does a starting running back make it healthy through an entire season. I am convinced we could sign the entire pro bowl for either division and still have people complain on this board. It must be pretty terrible to go through life this way. And if the Cardinals signed all those players, you would still hear that Bidwill is cheap and not creative in doing contracts. Give the guy a break.... The team is signing the players to help the team, now it's up to them & the coaches to put it all together!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wahooooooooooooooooooooooo:D

good point there Mrospi. No matter how hard the Cardinal front office is working there will always be naggers & whiners wherever you are. (ie, check out the AZCentral Cards Corner) the real winners come out on that place.

I give the Bidwill/front office credit for a change. They are trying to put their best foot forward & signing some key players.

I don't think signing Emmitt to a decent contract would have been a bad thing but signing him to around 4 million a year shows me that Graves is not the smartest puppy in the litter. It's true that having Emmitt and Marcel will give us two good backs as well as depth at the position I just think we could have used that money on defense or WR than at RB.

Some of us don't see it as good because we may not think that the team improved by signing Smith. He may be as good as Shipp. But better? At this point in his career, I see Smith as a steady, albeit not spectacular back. There may be some of us who are of the opinion that the Cards could have had other "steady" backs for considerably less dollars.

Simply, some of us disagree that he was a good signing. This does not mean we don't enjoy when we read that the Cards sign a star player that is still in his prime.

Some of us may disagree that Cards managment is headed in the right direction. Losing Boston and Rice (both superior talents - like em or not), and signing a has been back that was fortunate enough to play on good teams in his career doesn't necessarily establish that the Cards have turned it around. Emmitt played on a great team. IMO, he himself was no more a "winner" than a lot of other backs that played on bad teams.

I am a Cards' fan. I for one, do not go through life angry and complaining in general. However, the Cards have kept me complaining in regards to their decisions as a professional football fan for a better part of the last 30 years.

Also, this is NFL talk. This is not life. For crying out loud, we are going to disagree on a lot more important things that the Cardinals.

We may disagree. Big deal.

In spite of me not liking the signing of Smith, I hope he runs well for the Cards. Go Cards!

Amazing--isn't it? I've been a fan since the early 60's and I don't ever recall the Cardinals doing what they have done in this off-season. We haven't even gotten to the draft yet and I feel this team has improved 50% or better over last years' roster. People are still crying about losing Boston, but what did he do last year?
This team needed change and it's getting it in wholesale quantities. I may be an optimist, but I can see a plan that's being followed and every move has been a step in the right direction. I can't wait for the draft and the June 1 cut date.

I like the signing and have nothing but high hopes for this year. E.Smith for two years give us the time to find out if Shipp can truly be the back for the years to come. Shipp had what 500-600 yards rushing last year all be that is a great number for the times he got the starters job but it is still not enough to prove that he can take the beating of all 16 games. E. Smith brings us a new image and help with FA signings. However I do fear that his signing can be looked at as a bad move if the Cards don't get a #1 WR in, every team will stack the box with 8-9 and stuff both E and M if they don't fear the long ball because we have no one to throw to.

I agree that we need a #1 reciever, but I disagree that even if we don't get one, teams will not be able to stack the box on Blake like they did Plummer.

I don't think teams we're doing that to stop the run as much as they were flat out daring Plummer to throw the ball over ten yards. They knew that all they had to do was get him to put up a couple of lame ducks, grab a couple of picks, and control the game through turnovers.

Even if we don't get a #1, Blake has enough ability to beat the rush, that teams will be forced to respect that. Somthing they haven't had to do in six years.

signing emmitt and a # 1 receiver are mutually exclusive events.. we can still afford any receiver we want - but it appears there is no one out there we covet. There is a plan..whether it be after june 1st, trading for a guy like robinson from the bears, going after someone like crowell, or drafting a receiver (I hope not in the 1st round). ..I am sure we have a plan on getting a receiver - but for whatever reason - we have not implemented it. We will not go into training camp with mcaddly, kasper, and gilmore as our top 3 receivers.

Pass rush is a little different...this is a harder position to fill. may have to try and fill it in the draft..I am highly disappointed b/c I think this is our biggest need..but I am not sure there is anything we could have done differently this offseason to get a pass rush. we offered a ton of $$ to colvin..and he went elsewhere.
