I realize that I am just a danish guy, who due to the timedifferent and the distance do not have the same possibilities to follow the sport and the Cardinals as you have.
Never the less please hear me out.
Everything I write screams on the fact that I am almost manic about fixing our lines.
The whole scenario are based on a guess that Joe Thomas i taken before number five.
Anyway, here it goes.
First there is the free agency. As I see it, we need to be aggressive here.
Sign Eric Johnson. He is a good target as a tight end and would be a good alternative to Pope.
He might be too expensive to San Francisco. If they means to do anything i free agency and allready have Vernon Davis, Eric Johnson might not be the first guy whose contract is up for extension.
Sign Antwan Peek. We need another linebacker and Peek would fit in.
Texans has 21 free agents. If they want to extend with them all it will cost them.
Peek might be free soon.
Sign Jordan Black. We desperately need depth at offensive tackles and Black is not a bad player. Maybe he is a future starter, maybe he is not. No matter what he would be a good player to have.
Chiefs have already extended Tony Gonzalez contract and Jared Allen might be next on their list. If they intend to try anything in free agency they might not be able to afford Black. Keep in mind players like Kawika Mitchell is out of contract too.
Sign Deltha O´Neal. No explanation needed.
"ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports the Bengals may release Deltha O'Neal this offseason and address the cornerback position in the NFL Draft. Cincy is already set to lose free agent Tory James and took Johnathan Joseph in the '06 first round but O'Neal's play is declining and he was arrested for DUI in December. The Bengals are tinkering with the idea of moving Madieu Williams to corner and this draft is deep at the position."
Sign Ian Scott. He would be a nice fit as defensive tackle. Maybe he were not the best defensive player at Bears but he was a starter at the leagues best defensive team anyway. That cannot be bad.
"Arizona is reportedly a possible landing spot for free agent DT Ian Scott. Scott and Kendrick Clancy could split nose-tackle duties, as Clancy is a shade undersized and wore down last year. Scott is a natural run stuffer."
Sign Charles Grant. Obviously a huge strengthening. The Saints are probably not thrilled to get rit of him, but they will have to consider how and if they want to keep him. They might give him a franchise tag but that will cost them big time. Then they can put the transition tag on him. That would make him cheaper to them but also gives other teams the possibility the offer him a contract. Of course Saints have first option, but if they lose him anyway they will not get any compensation.
The same mistake Seattle made last year regarding Steve Hutchinson.
If he were to become a free agent and Arizona signed him, he would replace Okeafor immediately.
Pittsburgh are maybe satisfied with Trai Essex and Willie Colon as offensive tackles and it would therefore not be nonsens to imagine them offering Max Starks the lowest tender. If so we are to give away our third draftpick to get him. I think that is acceptable. I really like the idea of Starks taking care of Leinarts blindside.
"Steelers offensive lineman Max Starks, a restricted free agent who owns a house in Mesa, would love to play in Arizona. He said new Cardinals offensive-line coach Russ Grimm is the best in the business."
Then we are at the draft.
I think we should trade with either the Falcons or the Dolphins. I do not really know which player they could give us, but then a second or third round pick at the least.
If we were to choose at number nine or ten we could do three things. Either we could pick Amobi Okoye. A defensive tackle who can also play defensive end. 19 years old. Huge talent.
Or we could fill out a big need by picking Reggie Nelson. He would be a starter at once, substituting Robert Griffrith and making a good teamwork with Adrian Wilson.
Or we cut take Darrelle Revis and fill out another need.
In the second round we can pick Joe Staley or Ryan Kalil. Either we get a strong offensive tackle or very good center which we might not need but who has the potential to be in the pro bowl.
If we get a draftpick here instead of a player from Atlanta or Miami, we could pick Michael Bush as a good backup to Edgerrin James, or we could strengthen the defensive line furthermore with defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock
In the fourth round we could take Rufus Alexander if he is still there. Maybe not at first but pretty fast he will be able to attending the starting lineup.
If Alexander has been taken we could pick Dan Bazuin. A strong defensive end who would create depth and who is a strong pass rusher.
Maybe my scenarios in the third and the fourth round should be switched around.
The fifth pick we could spend on Tim Shaw. He would be a good pick if Alexander is not there in the fourth. Shaw can play defensive end, but at the Hula Bowl he switched back to his old position as a linebacker. If he is not moving up after scouting combine he seems like a little scoop at round five.
Round six we could use to get a backup quarterback. With Navarre in free agency and Warner not being any younger we could use another reserve to Leinart. If any of them are left in the sixth round Jeff Rowe, John Beck og Zac Thomas could be possibilities.
In the seventh round we pick best player available.
Please give me your oppinion.
