Leonard Davis- Franchise Davis or sign him long term. He was our best lineman and we have no one on our roster to replace him. Organizations don’t let a key players go with out a replacement lined up and there is no replacement for Davis. Yes, Joe Thomas might fall to us or we might be able to sign another LT but its simply not worth the risk.

Eric Steinbach- First, he is a guard. Not a tackle or a center but a guard! If I hear any more nonsense like “Steinbach can play left tackle” I’ll be sick. That being said he is very good and miles above any of our other offensive linemen. Yes, he will be expensive but he is still young and could become the foundation of our line for years to come. Both Brown and Lutui could use competition and I would be fine with Brown losing his starting job.

Adalius Thomas- Is he surrounded by talent? Absolutely. However, this guy is a freak and we could get a lot out of him. He fills a huge need at WLB and gives Clancy something to play with. Thomas can switch things up a DE or even safety. Biggest nocks on this guy are age and the $ he will command. Doubt the Ravens let him go but if they do we should make a run at him.

Some general thoughts. Nick Harper is old and slow. He could last a year or two more in a Cover-2 but we should stay far away. Briggs is overrated and will be franchised. June is another player who is Cover-2 only. In general I believe linebackers and linemen are more important than corners as they apply pressure.

The Draft:

I’m not terribly informed about the college game and don’t pretend to be an expert on the draft. That being said I have watched several games and done some reading.

First Round: If Joe Thomas falls to us than he should be our pick. I saw him in a bowl game (Capital One??) and loved what I saw. Otherwise, I like Alan Branch and Jamal Anderson. These are all elite prospects and all fill needs for us (Face it we don’t have great DT’s).

Second Round: From what I have seen some nice prospects may well fall into the second round. Here are several that I like…

CB Daymeion Hughes (Cal)
TE Zach Miller (ASU)
G Justin Blalock (Texas)
LB Buster Davis (Florida)

Otherwise I would try to grab a C, a nickel or dime back, and a WLB.

How about Staley OT or Ryan K. C from USC .. ???

There are plenty of good prospects. The ones I mentioned are simply several of my top choices. I don't know a lot about USC's C and Staley seems to be more of a smaller zone lineman.

Interesting take. I don't want a OG in free agency, we are pretty well set there if Oliver Ross can stay healthy enough to back up both sides.

For sure. Adalius Thomas is really a no-brainer for an innovative DC. Luke Pettigoat and Donnie Edwards would provide some leadership if acquired.

I'd love to get A. Thomas, but lots of teams will be pursuing him. I doubt we'll even get close to signing him.

Mainly I agree with most of your post.

I dont think LD is FAR better than our other Olinemen. I brokedown every snap that Oline played in slow motion. Nick Lecky is gunna be a very good center for us and Brown was a very good LG the second half of the season. LD is the best linemen we have but he also makes more mistakes then the other 2 I mentioned.

Brown in fact is athletic enough to move to LT IMO. I like him at guard because he is strong, but I do think he could play OT.

LD is a freak at his size he is still able to move like he does. But he would be alot better if he played OG.

I think we need to tag him & try to find a replacment for the next year, or trade him for a good draft pick.

For the past couple years the cards have come out of left feild and signed someone nobody even thought about. I dont who it will be but its been a trend and i wouldnt be surprised if it happened again.

If the Cardinals put Steinbach at guard the Cardinals would then have 2 o lineman on the bench making $3 million bucks a year. Will Ross get cut?
