With this O-Line causing the Cards to get QB after QB knocked to the sidelines, should the Cards draft a QBOTF, how do the keep him on the field? At most they have 2 useful starting linemen and the free agency cupboard looks bare. With many teams similarly desperate to get O-linemen, you can’t expect much help after round 2 of the draft. The pool is slightly deeper than last year, but look ar last year’s mid-round O-line selections. One got essentially dumped and the other is a turnstile. What’s the plan?

I've been, for years, wanting the Cards to draft/sign a legit center. They haven't had a guy to anchor the line for as long as I can remember. Shipley and Sendlein weren't awful but they are limited and just aren't that good in either the run or pass game. Having the middle of the OL caved in on a regular basis makes any OL struggle.

I wanted the Cards to sign Alex Mack badly when he was available and he's been credited with making a huge impact on the Atlanta OL.

This year, I would like the Cards to draft an OT early and a stout C, preferably Billy Price, early.

It is a problem that is league wide. There are a LOT of QB's out for the year.

As for the offensive line. The talent pool league wide is extremely shallow. Just another reason why NFL teams are going to be forced to run more college style offenses that are not so reliant on the offensive line to be anything better than average.

Are you not confident in Boehm at Center next year?

This is exactly why the Arians offense is in such trouble. It requires a solid Offensive line or a QB who has the ability to make quick reads and even figure out where the best option was by reading the defense before the snap and get the ball out hot. Both are very hard to acquire. Since the Cardinals have neither, Arians offense is a failure waiting to happen every week.

That's the big problem both for drafting a young QB or signing a UFA like say Cousins, how do you pull it off with such a bad OL and now poor Wr's? If I'm Cousins there's very little chance I leave a team with a decimated OL and sign with a team that has an even worse one.

I think we need to get a QBOTF this year, I'm just not clear how we'll do it unless we trade up.

Is there a consensus #1 pick that is by far better than all the other round 1 QB’s? Is he worth the trade capital it would take to get him over the #2 or #3 prospect? Seems there are differing opinions on who is the top QB in this draft...

Although we are in desperate need for a QBOTF, I can't argue that building the Oline first is the way to go. It's hard for a young QB to develop properly with the current state of this line.

Maybe the Rams approach is the way to go. The quarterback has plenty of time to read the defense. It also is close to what college teams are doing. To bring in a QB who is used to a spread offense and expect him to become a pocket passer may not be realistic.

It doesn't bode well that he hasn't been unable to unseat Shipley and lost his spot as starter at RG.

Our coaches tend to want to stick with the known instead of giving him an opportunity though. Losing the RG job sucked but I am not the best oline evaluator. Maybe he is strictly a center?

Can the coaches depend on SK to make significant difference making changes to the OL since he built this OL into it’s current form?

You need a dance partner, and the Browns aren't going to pass up on a consensus #1 QB to let us trade into the spot. The dream of getting the #1 QB in this draft (at least the consensus one) is one for the pipes. We'll need to get a little lucky with a guy falling into our range.

Also, don't worry, we have an entire offseason of "the QBs this year are awful, wait until next year" coming up.

It is very surprising that both Boehm and Dorian Johnson didn't make an impact. Both were very highly regarded. Boehm still probably has one more shot, Johnson is long gone already.

I think that Blaineghazi makes the OL look worse than it is. Some of those immediate sacks are terrible, but he has no awareness of where pressure is coming from, even after all these NFL starts.

I think that right now we're a below-average offensive line, but early in the year we were average.

I visualze a blank 63 man roster sheet with room for 53 regulars (including 25 starters) and 10 PS players.

I then see SK ranking every NFL player both by overall BPA ranking and BPA by position.

It then becomes a matter of plugging in the highest-rated players into the highest-rated open roster spots.

Example: SK might rate an EDGE pass rusher in his top 3 open positions, 5 OL's in his top 15 and all backup OL's in his top 30. (We don't know hat SK is thinking/we can't read his mind - we can only guess).

But that's the process I think SK is going thru, and every 63 man spot figures to be open).

Gotta wonder whether our assessments of guys like Tyrann or Frostee or Veldheer matches Steve's.

(Note - I'm a depth guy and an OL guy. I think we should overpay, if necessary, to build our OL to where it's got to be).

OL issues or no --

if you can take a QB in round 1 you feel good about, you take him and then figure out when its safe to play him

It is going to come down to signing solid free agents after clearing cap space to stock this OL with any confidence... the question is who is going to be available

Top 3 QBs taken each year since 2000. Looking at the list it seems apparent that it is more likely you will have success of some degree with the top pick and somewhat lesser with the second QB taken. By the time the third QB is taken your odds of finding a QB are worse. Kind of says your best shot at success is to have the first pick of the QBs available. If I have a number after their name it means that was the round they were selected in, otherwise they are first round picks.

cardpa---who is the first QB in this draft? I think it's Darnold---if he comes out. Then Rosen.

Darnold has the physical assets to be the first one off the board. He seems to have had a setback on the mental side. Mayfield is also a serious consideration to go first. A lot will depend on his combine workout and the interviews.
