I don't think I would. Bonds played at a great MVP type level when he was about the size of Steve Nash (comparatlively). So although his home run explosion can be looked at as tainted, I think he would have been HOF bound without the clear and the cream.

As for Sosa, in my opinion, the guy was mediocre before the clear and the cream. As soon as the juice kicked in so did his power numbers. So his place in history can't be changed by a good or even great season this year.

Opinions. Only Opinions.

I said yes. But only because I think Sosa could possibly redeem himself a little.

I take the same stance as Mulli on Bonds though... He'd be in the Hall either way. It's a shame that he had to cheat to do it though.

Nope. They got the money. They wanted that more than respect, I guess. Just take the money and run. You can't have everything.

No. Putting up good numbers doesn't erase the cheating that already took place. Bonds doesn't deserve the home run record and I wouldn't shed a tear if he blew out his knee sometime in the near future.

No, I don't think so. I am all for second chances and such but both players had their chances to redeem themselves in the public eye and both disregarded that chance.

The irony of all of it was both Bonds and Sosa were better all around players before they started juicing. Sosa was a base-stealing threat and actually could play solid D but once he juiced up, he never stole bases and became something of a liability in the OF...not near as bad as Bonds who IMO serious half-asses his play in the field.

I hope, somehow, someway Bonds fails to get the record. I don't want him to get injured but just want him to fail...sadly though, he won't.

Completely agree on both! Bonds: Bad guy, liar, and on the juice, but a damn good ball player even without 'roids.

Being as I don't give two bits about steroids (there fine w/ me, I don't care who takes them), whatever Bonds and Sosa do won't change my opinions of them. I don't think Sosa belongs in the HoF, but Bonds obviously does, he's probably the best to have ever have played. Especially in his younger years when he could run, play defense, and hit.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd choose his godfather, Willie Mays as the best 5-tool ballplayer ever.

Bonds' stats are higher because of the times in which he's played.

Baseballs wound tighter to travel farther; more teams = diluted pitching staffs; and, yes, steroids.

^Well you agree Bonds is certainly in the discussion though- right? I mean, in any sport, its impossible to compare different era's. Bonds is probably the best of his generation for sure, and in the top 5 or 10 all time.

And for as much flack as players get for playing in smaller parks, having more teams, etc, there are also things working against them. First off, the more teams thing isn't really an issue, there are a lot more people now, so I'd assume there are more people also attempting to play baseball. Also, players are MUCH better athletes now, I bet more HRs are robbed, more great web gems are made, etc that 30 years ago.

So each generation has its advantages and disadvantages is all I'm saying.

Would you change your thoughts on their respective place in baseball history if they put up good numbers in 2007?
No, I won't change my thoughts on their place in baseball history if they walked up to me and gave me a check for a million dollars. It still doesn't change the fact that they used roids and cheated the fans, fellow players, and themselves.

No.

Not only does Sosa have the suspected/alledged steroid use in his closet, he also was caught cheating by using a corked bat.

Bonds is a POS. A cheater and has blamed how many teammates for his indiscretions?

Now that he's getting closer to a bogus homerun record, does anyone have anything planned in the way of chants or signs when he comes to Arizona in two weeks? Do you think that the backlash is over from last year, or do you think it will only continue?

Judging from yer user name - I think you want the lashing to continue.

I think that Barry Bonds should be considered one of the greatest to ever play and will be a first ballot HOFer, despite the fact that I hate him personally. Sosa to me is alot like McGuire in that the only things that they really did was hit home runs, so neither belongs in the HOF.
