"Reportedly confused".

Pretty irresponsible of you to post this. Pretty damn tired of the right members of this board essentially implying that I and others in my industry support child sex trafficking. Can the moderators tell me why Shane and Wayward can get away with that??

Get away with what? Posting satire? Funny is always funny. If you don’t like it or take it personal well tough. Not really my concern. You and others around this place have attacked me directly and indirectly for years and lumped me In With “all the others” based off just my profession alone. Not fun is it?

I also noticed you’ve complained about historical accuracy in this thread reference this movie. But based on other movies in here and historical accuracy in those you really don’t have an issue with that CLEARLY. HYPOCRITE MUCH?

Another right winger that is missing the point of the entire thread. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Stop moving the goalposts and accusing us of supporting child sex trafficking. That would be a good start. Certainly unbecoming of someone that used to "protect and serve."

Maybe we need to create a P&R thread to discuss everything but the film for people who have not seen it and this thread can stay here for those that want to discuss the actual film they have seen.

Oooh, and maybe a thread for people who want to watch the actual film, and ignore every other issue surrounding the film while minimizing any criticism leveled at it!

It's cool that you loved the film - good for you! But to act like this is neutral content and that criticisms of the film is tacit support of abuse is incredibly gross.

ASUCHRIS already but on this, but the Tom Cruise comparison is just a terrible gap in logic

If there was a movie that came about examining the field of psychology, children use of ADHD related medications and post partum depression that happened to feature Tom Cruise, was backed by a small production company adjusted with the Church of Scientology and then he went on a long printing tour not only taking about the content of the movie, but denouncing these items as a whole and then also promoting wilder conspiracies like how psychology could be behind the Yugoslavia wars or 9/11 - then the comparison would track a bit more.

However, he's putting out paint by number action movies or action dramadies and all the press centers around him doing his own stunts or ability to drive/fly

Again, by all accounts Sound of Freedom plays it pretty straight

Even though the attachment of someone like Caviezel will cause a justified second glance, the movie avoids this.

However, Caviezel is undoubtedly using the movie and related press to push QAnon junk and a bunch of crazy rhetoric. He's the one (along with Ballard) that are tying these talking points to a film that doesn't have Q elements in it.

I would prefer not to give him additional oxygen

Heh - let me tell you a story of a guy. Maybe self centered, a little brash, a little arrogant. Could be a bar tender, race car driver, fighter pilot, etc. Good looking, has a way with the ladies. There is one girl that keeps him at bay. He'll try to to flirt and get her attention, but ultimately gets caught up with his self centered rivalry with another guy in his profession. Someone he cares about will get hurt or face serious danger. He'll look beyond his selfish ways, rescue the day, gain the reluctant respect of his rival and get the girl.

I think there could be some success in this framework

That's hilarious because earlier today I watched Jahns' review of MI: 7, Part One and he went through all of the boxes the film checked to be your basic Tom Cruise action thriller. LOL Car chase scene, incredible Tom Cruise stunt, Tom full on running, etc.

Is it really a joke to say people in Hollywood support child sex trafficking?
Only to people that aren't in Hollywood. Those of us in Hollywood have too thin skin. Waiting for the funny ha ha satire article about the Manson Murders, because, you know, Hollywood.

That was mostly a joke, but to call the action and setpieces Cruise and that insane crew repeatedly pull off is anything paint by numbers.

They’re elevating action to an art form really never seen before and which will probably never see again.

I just took it as a tweek to Hollywood as I would about anything the Bee puts out. The bit about Indiana Jones and Plates of Nephi was pretty funny

Again… those beats are the same beats of ANY action movie. But if people can’t see the difference between the absolute insanity that Cruise and Impossible Crew are putting on screen with real/practical effects/stunts versus any other action movie on the market, y’all are blind.

Sure, but Wayward said the same thing in a post without linking to some satirical website. If it is satire, then label it as such -- Shane didn't do that. For those of us unfamiliar about the Babylon Bee, is it any surprise that I called him out? And instead of saying "relax, it was satire, nothing was meant by it," he doubled down on the insults and accusations.

To be honest, I don’t really care. The voices who usually yell about this horrible stuff loudest into a megaphone are usually those most responsible for it.

Getting mad about Babylon Bee is like getting mad about John Oliver.

That's fair. I only know a little of their stuff. I am more an aforementioned Oliver cup of tea.

I am beginning to question the impossibility of these missions by now though. Once you're on mission 7, part one, they seem much more possible. ;)

Fun fact: Tom Cruise is now older than Jon Voight was in the first MI film.

Haven’t seen the movie yet, so I won’t judge it, but …

it’s ironic to call sex trafficking QAnon nonsense when Epstein literally happened. I can see the doubt five years ago, but that’s not the world we live in now.
No one is calling sex trafficking nonsense. We are calling the BS crap that Qanon creates around the issue BS crap.

In many cases, Hollywood has been as good at the child abuse game as the Catholic church has been.

Ask Woody Allen, Roman Polanski or Harvey Weinstein. Source 1 Source 2

Quentin Tarantino did about as good a job as can be done with this subject. And I think it was mostly a dark comedy IIRC.
