Sound problem when browsing the net

OK, I used to have this problem a long time ago. I would run a program playing music and when I would browse the net it would become staticy at times. I fixed the problem by ending up with Itunes and Firefox. Now I've upgraded both to the newest versions, and the staticy problem is back. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?
