I assume it's just a straight swap because it works that way and the value is fair for both.

I wonder if we could get in on that action.

PHX sends: Carter/cash
PHX gets: Iguodala/Udoh

GSW sends: Ellis/Udoh
GSW gets: Carter/Cash

PHI sends: Iguodala
PHI gets: Ellis

This still leaves us open to send Dudley/Lopez/#13 for #2/Flynn. Suns save roughly $4m off the cap immediately, but they are saddled with Iggy's deal for three more years after this.

However:

Nash-Iguodala-Williams-Frye-Gortat

Hill-Flynn-Udoh-Warrick-Childress-Pietrus

That's a far cry better than last year's roster without even considering potential MLE FA signings (SG or C)....

Please, stop the madness with Iguodala. He has one of the worst contracts in the NBA. We don't need any more overpaid swingmen.

Why would the Warriors do that deal? Think they're going to give up Monta Ellis and another player for a washed up Vince Carter? No way.

$17.5m in salary reduction is why. This trade would put them $7m UNDER the cap giving them flexibility in FA or in other trades where they may want to find a big 2 without taking on Iguodala's big contract....

More than $60m for Iggy over term or reducing $17.5m immediately. That's an $80m swing. They would do that....

Interesting proposal. Even if we assume that GS wants to cut salary, I'm not sure they need to include Udoh or would want to for that matter. I don't think Philly is giving up enough because Ellis has more value IMO and he has a better contract.

Maybe this: (obviously fillers would have to be included)

PHX sends: Carter
PHX gets: Iguodala, #16

GSW sends: Ellis
GSW gets: Carter

PHI sends: Iguodala, #16
PHI gets: Ellis

As for the original rumor, I like the trade for both teams. GS gets a taller wing and defender to pair with Curry (remember Hill torching Ellis last season in the post). Philly get's a high-scoring combo guard to pair with the taller Holiday. Win/Win talent-wise. Contracts...

At his current salary, especially considering a new CBA, why would Iguodala be attractive to anyone, let alone us?

Because, he played for UofA and it's obvious with Frye and the DWilliams rumor, that Sarver is trying to assemble a UofA dream team. Jason Terry anyone?

My thinking on Udoh is that GSW still holds the #11 and there are some Euro-ball big guys in this draft that are just what they love anyway. That leaves Udoh possibly the odd man out. The trade needs Udoh's $3m to work because GSW is over the cap. So, even if you are right about them not wanting to send Udoh, there still needs to be $3m from somewhere.

Either way, from a financial perspective, GSW saves $80m in this deal. Ellis/Udoh for $80m is a no-brainer....

I do like your trade idea (with the #16), but we're short that $3m. We'd have to take back, say, Amundson and Acie Law and we're in the money. Alternatively, VC/cash for (Ellis)/Bell/#16 also works.

This leaves us with the #13 and #16, which we could use in trade with Dudley to get the #2. All those moves combined would be great and leave us with some depth.

Nash-Iguodala-Williams-Frye-Gortat

Hill-Bell-Lopez-Pietrus-Childress-....

As dynamic a player as he is, Ellis is fragile and he needs the ball in his hands to be effective. A backcourt of Nash-Ellis is not as good as Nash-Iguodala, not to mention defensive issues being compounded in the former compared to the latter....

Lol, color me thrilled! Maybe we can get Corky Buddinger too and put together a real dream team.

Maybe because he's considered among the best defenders in the NBA and can do a little of everything offensively? He's overpaid of course but so is most of our roster and most of the league that isn't on their rookie contracts.

So you'd legitimately advocate him as a good acquisition for the Suns?

I have no idea how the hell you fix the mess that has become the Suns, but just because they continue to overpay marginal talent doesn't mean that compounding the problem is the way to go. To pay Iggy, who isn't even playing like an all star anymore 15 million for the next 3 years makes no sense.

He's a nice player, but a 2 guard who can't shoot 3's, and mostly chucks up jumpers at this point. There's no questioning that he's a decent defender, and a good all around player, but paying a guy that deserves 7-10 million per year almost 15 makes zero sense either in the short term or the long term.

Oh I agree, but there's worse ways to spend $12 million annually. See Josh Childress and Hakim Warrick or Dudley and Channing Frye. He's also a small forward and is much better than a "decent" defender. New CBA will allow us to waive Iggy after a couple years anyways so at least we give Nash somebody with a pulse to play with while he fades into retirement.

The only way this mess improves is trading the few assets we have left for draft picks. If it means trading up for Derrick Williams fine because at least they'll be trying instead of treading water. Honestly though the only way we get better is falling off the cliff and drafting then developing a star because our assets ain't that good. Nash is 37 and everyone else is either a role player or scrub.

You didn't even include the most vomit inducing quotes...

"Welts said that Babby, in his first year with the franchise, was amazed by the negative reaction to the Suns' 40-42 record this past season.

"For a lot of markets that's a really successful team," Welts said. "But the success we've had comes with higher standards in terms of people's expectations. There's more anxiety when the team isn't solidly winning more than half of its games."

Amazing that a team 2 games from the finals last year was "negative" about not only losing it's best player, but becoming a non playoff team with no hope for the future. How silly of us.

could you imagine ANYONE from the Colangelo Suns teams uttering the words "for a lot of markets, a 40-42 record is a really successful team" AND being amazed at the negative reaction to last season?

it seems like the Suns are literally run by a bunch of a complete and utter idiots.
