NEW CASTLE — The South Oldham High School boys basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016.

Brooks Bee’s 3-pointer with 39 seconds left in overtime lifted the Dragons to a 53-50 victory over rival North Oldham in Tuesday’s Eighth Region Tournament championship game at Henry County.

South Oldham (28-5) avenged two losses to North Oldham earlier this season and will face No. 9-ranked Danville Christian (29-3), the 12th Region champion, at 6 p.m. next Wednesday in the first round of the UK Healthcare Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.

Colin Daniels’ free throw gave North Oldham (21-8) a 50-48 lead with 1:24 left in overtime, setting up Bee’s 3-pointer from the left wing that gave South Oldham a 51-50 edge.

After a North Oldham turnover, South Oldham beat the press and got a layup from Bee with 14 seconds left for a 53-50 lead.

North Oldham had two 3-point attempts to tie in the final seconds but couldn’t convert.
