The fallout from the trade that sent generational superstar Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers continues. Many are still mad at the Mavs for giving up the greatest player in franchise history while essentially gifting the Lakers their next transcendent legend.
Such criticism has apparently become a reference point for pop culture lately.
Southwest Airlines recently announced it will start charging customers for checked baggage after it had allowed two free checked bags for many years. Plenty are upset about this change, and the Dallas-based airline decided to reach out to the public by mocking the Mavs' decision to get rid of Doncic.
Southwest had long stood out from other airlines, partly because of its checked bag policy. Now it has had to try to differentiate itself from bigger national airlines by reminding people of the Doncic fiasco in Texas.
The Mavs have been going down the drain since that Doncic fiasco. They have lost multiple players to injury, including Anthony Davis, the main chip they got back for Doncic, and Kyrie Irving, who is done for the season with a torn ACL. The team has lost eight of its last 10 games and sits in 10th place in the Western Conference, and one has to wonder if it could end up missing the play-in tournament.
Meanwhile, Doncic went on a heater for the Lakers and scored a very efficient 45 points in their loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. It is scary to think that he is just getting started with what should be a very long and fruitful tenure with the Purple and Gold.

Even Southwest Airlines is dunking on the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic as they announced no more free bags on flights:
