If any movie needs a remake, this is it. What a great premise. Unfortunately, the Heston version of the movie is crap. I just can't bring myself to get into any movie that is older than Star Wars. Some may say I'm missing out on some great flicks, but the acting and special effects is just a generation too early for me. I really can only get into movies that are from the 80's and newer (save for the original Star Wars).

Having said all that, Soylent Green needs to be remade with all the modern updates. It should be remade with the same type of quality as Tom Cruise's Minority Report or even like The Island. I just can't get into the movie as it is. I appreciate the premise greatly, but beyond that it is a horrible movie, IMO....

MESA! :thud:
My husband is a big Heston fan (minus the NRA crap, but that's for a different forum), and Soylent Green has been an a source of much humor for us through the years. I knew none of you would see the shocker of "your name in a movie quote" for me being "Soylent Green is Linderbee" (or Linda, can't remember which I used), but I laughed so hard at that....kinda like "may the BIM be with you" for Brian...definitely needs to be remade.

Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!! :D ;)

A remake would suck because everyone already knows what the payoff is.

(See Linderbee's post above)

That didn't stop them from remaking Planet of the Apes.

One Sci Fi movie I'd like to see remade is the Andromeda Strain, one of Crichton's first books(might actually be his first). It's a great story and the movie was ok but it sure could be good with modern special effects etc.

That's completely different IMO. The original Planet of the Apes is still a good movie with lots of memorable scenes and dialogue, even without the "ironic twist" at the end.

The only thing memorable about Soylent Green is Heston's discovery that, "Soylent Green is...".

it's been ages since I've seen Soylent Green so you're probably right
about that.

What got me with the Planet of the Apes remake was they changed up the ending a bit and made it seriously confusing as to what exactly had happened, and then they never made a sequel to explain it.

I thought about that too just recently. At the end of the Planet of the Apes remake I looked at my brother and said, "WTF". He looked at me condescendingly and said, "Part 2".

It made sense at the time, but like you said, they never made a Part 2.

Because the movie was awful and got slaughtered at the box office, probably.

Recently watched it. You gotta love those completely over-exaggerated punches in 70's films. This one's pretty dated, but still interesting. Too bad it wasn't made today instead, since you can't really remake it due to the famous line.

Although you won't get your wish of a remake, there is a possibility of a sequel. There's even a page for it on IMDB listing a 2012 release date. I guess we'll see.

Maybe in the remake Soylent Green can be NBA team owners.
