Michigan State basketball will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday evening, and the bracketology trio at USA TODAY has some final thoughts on where they'll end up.
Paul Myerberg, Erick Smith and Eddie Timanus put out their final NCAA Tournament bracket projection on USA TODAY this morning, and it has the Spartans heading west. Michigan State has landed as the No. 2 seed in the West Region, with Florida as their No. 1 seed in the same region.
Michigan State is projected to play No. 15 seed Montana in a first round matchup in Cleveland. The Spartans would then face the winner of No. 7 seed Gonzaga and No. 10 seed Oklahoma should they move on to the second round.
Michigan State is widely considered a lock to be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament when the official bracket is reveled on Sunday. With the seed already known, it's more a matter of where they'll play and who they'll be paired with in their region.
This isn't an ideal draw for the Spartans -- at least, in my opinion. Potentially facing Gonzaga in the second round is no fun as the Zags are always a talented squad and would certainly be a tough out. If you make it to the second weekend, you're then forced to travel across country to San Francisco and face Texas Tech and Florida (if going by chalk seeding). The Gators are especially what concerns me, as you could make an argument that Florida is playing the best of anyone in the country right now.
Overall, this is a pretty tough draw for the Spartans. There, of course, will be no easy draw but this is one I wouldn't be too excited about should it play out this way on Sunday.
