I think I finally realized who this version of the Cardinals reminds me of. And that's the 49ers of the '80s to mid '90s.

It's not in the offensive philosophy, rather it's the fact that everybody still looks at this team as a pretty boy finesse offensive team. However, just like those 49ers teams, who were also known as a pretty boy finesse offensive team, this Cardinals team has a pretty nasty and tough defense. That was always one thing that was so overlooked about those 49ers teams... Their defense.

rule changes and salary cap has changed defensive coordinators philosophies.
Cap doesn’t allow teams to totally load up on one side of the ball or other without turning the team into one dimensional.
What I’ve seen is our defense has changed from game to game to take away the biggest weapon. We quieted Kupp. We stifled the 49ers running game.
Let’s not forget it makes playing defense a bit easier when your opponent looks up at the scoreboard and sees 17-0 or 17-3.
Kliff has come of age. We attacked the 49ers in a completely different way than the first game. Vance Joseph is not getting enough love from ANYBODY.

This defense, especially the DBs and Isaiah Simmons are incredibly physical. Several times yesterday they laid the wood after a pass reception. I can't remember a Cardinal team this physical. Yes there were some individual players like Swearington but this is an entire defense.

Jalen Thompson is becoming one of my favorite underrated players.

Think of how down everybody was about the secondary after Butler retired. They have been fantastic. The hardest hitters in the NFL from what I see. Their tackling is superb. used to be, our CBs and safeties would have broken tackle after broken tackle. Not this group.

I took a little trip onto some of the 49ers message boards yesterday to enjoy the vibe. They are eating each other alive. Nasty arguments about QB and coach. The GM is getting flayed. Pre game, they were going to annhilate us. Post game, KK outcoached Shanahan, Shanahan sucks.

It was SWEET.

It seems like with PP gone the players are more accountable

With his weak attempts to tackle it was not setting a good example

Now they are all ready to hit which is the way top D is played

Murphy, Baker, Thompson, and Simmons are all explosive hitters. Wait til Zaven Collins gets up to speed, because he's another guy that will pop people
