DENVER – Brice Turang is off to a red-hot start at the plate for the Milwaukee Brewers.

No, he's not swinging a torpedo bat. But he is using batting gloves procured from a special source.

None other than Ryan Braun, who after a spring-training chat with Turang sent the second baseman several holdover pairs of his exclusive "Swingman" Nike gloves from his 2011 National League MVP season.

Turang was wearing said gloves Tuesday night when he launched his career-best 444-foot home run in the Brewers' 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies and afterward credited newfound "man strength" for his power.

But the connection to Braun with the gloves is a fun one.

"I was just telling him that I go to (Milwaukee's director of equipment Jason) Shawger to get my gloves," said Turang, who was spring-training teammates with Braun several times in 2019 and 2020 as he was ascending the organization's minor-league ladder. "He was like, 'I'll send you some pairs,' and was nice enough to give them to me."

Turang, who entered Wednesday hitting .318 with three homers, seven runs batted in and an .885 OPS, has also been known to occasionally wear Christian Yelich's Nike batting gloves; eagle-eyed viewers watching on TV might have noticed the "22" tabs on the insides of the wrists.

"Yeli is nice enough to let me borrow some whenever I need it," Turang said.

The only equipment endorsement deal Turang currently has is with Rawlings. He signed his first deal with the company prior to last season and, thanks to his tremendous play, ended up winning the company's Platinum Glove Award as the pre-eminent fielder in the National League.

Otherwise, the rest of the equipment Turang uses is provided by Shawger and the Brewers, his agent or purchased by Turang himself.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Turang end up with another endorsement deal or two, considering his status as an ascending young player.

But he also appreciates the freedom to be able to utilize what feels best to him and works best for him without worrying about potentially running afoul of contractual obligations.

And who knows? Maybe Turang will receive another package containing more goodies from Braun moving forward.
