Sir, Every day we hear football managers bleating about how their pampered players are being asked to play two or, heavens forbid, three times a week. They must be totally exhausted. Perhaps these managers can spare a thought for the nurses working in our hospitals facing life and death decisions hourly, working perhaps 12 hours a day for five to seven days a week. The salaries of 10 nurses annually combined would be equivalent to what some players earn in a week. I realise this is an unrealistic request, but perhaps some managers could think of others instead of their privileged selves, especially this year. David Trowbridge, Horsham
