One of the better well-written analyses out there IMO. Giving up the big play means opponents are never out of the game. He nailed the failure to finish at Carolina and Washington. New England is always well-coached, but being without Adelius Thomas is a plus for us.

Did he really describe the play of the defensive front as "disciplined?"

Yes, and I agree with it.

Compared to last year / this year pre-season, the D has done much better at maintaining correct positions along the line of scrimmage; special teams also.

I agree with CL. Remember he said our "front 7" was playing well and blasted our secondary. I think our DLine and Linebackers have played very well. Its the secondary that has been a consistent problem. Both in pass coverage and run support

The writer even nailed Pendy's break but don't bend defense.

Can't argue with his assessment at all.

Good analysis - as far as it goes.

To me, it can be distilled into one aspect of the game -mental lapses.

Physically and athletically, the Cards match up favorably with most NFL teams. It's the mistakes that get us in trouble.

Clean up the goof-ups and there's no reason this team can't go to the Super Bowl.

But - nine games into the season - it seems as if the problem with miscues is chronic. Almost guaranteed to happen are (a) at least one long play due to a mental let-down, (b) another long play due to sloppy tackling/angles, (c) a couple of calls on Deuce and (d) bunch of other false start calls. And who among us no longer holds his breath when Rackers is about to drill a gimme chip shot?

If this team ever gets to the point where it is collectively mentally alert and mentally tough, we will have a lot to be excited about.

If...
