The current issue of sporting news says that the dbacks are interested in juan gonzalez - and it could come down to the dbacks or the dodgers - but the dbacks would have the edge...someone in the dbacks organization (a coach) first found gonzalez in puerto rico - and bank one ballpark is known as a hitter friendly park (both per the writer). This is the issue with jake plummer on the cover that arrived today.

I have not seen this mentioned here (but it might be old news and I may have missed the thread).... Gonzalez would obviously be our right fielder...the writer failed to mention that gonzalez is very expensive - not sure if we could even afford him..

Who would we give up? In my fantasy world I would like to give up patterson, myers and danny bautista or delucci...but I assume the rangers would want someone of higher quality than these three..(bautista was quality prior to his injury last season..but he has not regained form). Anyone heard any more on this? Who else would we have to throw in? I would assume they would want one of our top pitching prospects - but not sure we would give any of them up ...and juan is 34 years old..so I would hate to see us give up too much..

Juan Gonzalez has decided he would accept a trade, but only to an AL team (ESPN.com as of today) - it looks like the Yankees (surprise) are going to try and get him now!!

I would think Patterson, Myers and one of the right fielders (all together) would be more than decent compensation for Juan Gonzo2, given that he's on contract for the rest of the year. He could well be what we need to get an edge against the Giants. Also, I wouldn't think the front office would not want to see him as a Dodger.
But, I've also heard or read he doesn't want to come to the NL!
The Yankees & their deep pockets do not impress me.

The Yankees have all the money in baseball, but their minor league system is pretty pathetic right now - other than a lot of cash & possibly Jeff Weaver/Sterling Hitchcock, they don't have much to offer Texas for Gonzo2 in the way of prospects, so I guess it all depends on what the Rangers want - though money usually does the trick.
