As the wild, wild Western Conference ended its regular season in a kaleidoscope of madness, it came down to this for the Warriors and their first-round playoff matchup: They’d face either a team entering Wednesday night with a six-game winning streak, or one about to lose its eighth straight on the road. Chances are they preferred the hot hand. That’s how much respect the San Antonio Spurs still carry in the NBA. Because Denver couldn’t sustain that winning streak, taking a heartbreaking 112-106 loss in overtime at Minnesota, the Nuggets have completely vanished. They’ll be watching the playoffs from home.
