I know you guys hate SA and everything associated with SA--the players, fans, city, etc.

But--putting that aside for a minute, it really is interesting to see just how much in common both Suns fans and Spurs fans have this summer.

Both fan bases are totally livid with their teams, calling them cheap. Both sets of fans are ready to run their respective owners out of town on a rail.

There have been trades this summer that have been highly controversial. Maybe less for for the Suns with Thomas.

Spurs fans are still livid with giving up on Scola, especially to a division rival. If the Rockets wind up being pretty good and going deep in the playoffs, I imagine there will be a few fans all over the Western conference that will hate that trade as much as Spurs fan did (and still do).

In fact, you could probably delete the name of the team on these blogs and it would be hard to distinguish which team was being castigated.

I myself think that Grant Hill is going to be rock solid for the Suns this coming season. I think for him to be effective, though, Coach D needs to limit his limits for the first 2/3 of the season pretty much the way that Horry's minutes are limited. Need to have him as healthy as possible for the post-season.

I really think that this may the Suns year this year. If you wind up with PJ Brown--wow--you'd have to make the Suns the pre-seaoson favorite.

Both teams are bothered by the cap--so far the Suns have picked up a great player this summer; the Spurs gave up on a great player (Scola) and gave him up to a division rival. If the Spurs do not wind up getting anything in return for the cash they got from the the Scola trade, it may turn out to be the biggest flop that SA has ever made in an off-season.

I like this blog--hope you folks don't mind me sticking around this season.

Best wishes,

great post.

your team is awesome, ours is slightly less awesome.

the loss of KT for us imo was a bigger blow to our current hopes, scola of course hurts SA more in the long run. but of course the suns have long run issues themselves with an ownership group that loves to give away draft picks.

bottom line is, until amare stoudemire becomes a GREAT defensive player that is able to avoid foul trouble as well as tim duncan is able to, the spurs will be quantifiably superior to the suns.

if amare can do this, ya'll are in trouble, and i don't put anything beyond amare, but at this point, i'll believe it when i see it. till then, ya'll are in the driver's seat.

all hail president kodos...i mean the world champion spurs! :p

The difference is, there are fundamental additions we need to make, the spurs are just touching up the icing on their cake.

Cheap can be justified with the team that just won the championship if they are keeping their core together, not the team looking to claim what is rightfully theirs

Nothing the spurs have done can even hold a candle to the controversy of trading KT away with unprotected draft picks -- for nothing.

I think its cute your team won the championship and you still have dreams of comparing your team to us :)

As a general rule, the Spurs fans during the regular season were generally pretty good (at least compared to Mav fans). But come the playoffs it was troll city. :bang:

The bottom line for the Suns is that if they get PJ Brown, they should on the margin be a better team due to Hill. If they don't, the next tier of bigs are not as good and probably will have more of a matchup problem with the Spurs.

Bringing up Hill's health is understandable, but the issue is relevant across the board. No team can afford to have the depth to be able to suffer the loss of a key player in the playoffs.

How good would PJ Brown really be. He can't even decide if he wants to play. Would it not make more sense to go for a younger, hungrier type player. Ely maybe?

the one "main" thing is that the spurs are nba champs this summer. the suns are STARVING for a ring. the spurs can be cheap or whatever but they have gotten it done and you sure cant win a title every year. i wish i could be talking about our cheap owner along with thinking back to the suns championship parade.

Didn't the Spurs give up someone else of worth besides Scola? I not referring to Ely either. Maybe I confused on this issue but it seemed like another player was in the mix.

If we had just won the title and Sarver made the KT trade I'd have been 10X as pissed as I was.

Winning the championship means the owner makes a lot of extra money.

They had to use Scola to get rid of the Butler contract. He was one of the bigs the Spurs signed a year ago. He makes $2.3 million this year and $2.55 million next year.

Yeah--they got rid of Butler. Appears as though the FO wanted to go after another player (possibly Ime?) and needed to dump Butler's salary.
