I'm certain that this band will generate a broad range of reactions... Some dismiss them as epitomizing what is wrong with music today on how corporate they may seem....
True, Nu-Metal is one of the styles that has somewhat ruined today's music, but I have so much difficulty in lumping Staind along with their contemporaries like Nickelback, Korn, Puddle of Mudd, or Limp Bizkit.....
What separates them purely is Aaron Lewis with his extremely profound lyrics and dynamic vocals.... I would rank him along with Lajon Witherspoon of another vastly underrated band (Sevendust) as the 2 best to emerge from the Nu-Metal movement and I would also include the late singer of Snot, Lynn Strait, into that category as well (but he in fact might have been better and they would have branched out beyond Nu-Metal)...
It's just the depth of Staind's songs that always captivate me..such as "It's Been Awhile", "Mudshovel", "Fade", "Outside", "Price To Play", "So Far Away", etc....
Yes, they may get played-out to the extent that you dont listen to one of your fave songs of theirs (in my case it's "Its Been Awhile" which I just listened for the first time in nearly 4-years since back then it was on the radio practically every moment I turned it on back then), but then I fall in love with that song all over again....
They were also amazing in concert as well and if there's one singer who embodies Layne Staley today, that again certainly is Aaron Lewis.. I even love his ode to Staley on the "Press To Play" song "Layne" which would make Staley proud himself....
Who else loves Staind? Even if you hate them, you must certainly agree that Aaron Lewis is one of the best song-writers to surface over the past decade or so....
Here's their official site in which you can sample their new release "Chapter V" and they still manage to rock but with also a sense of purpose....
