The NCAA and its broadcast partners at CBS and TNT Sports have announced start times and TV information for Sweet 16 games of the NCAA Tournament, including the East Region semifinal matchup between the No. 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 6 seed BYU Cougars.
Alabama vs. BYU will tip at 6:09 p.m. CT Thursday from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The game will be televised on CBS, marking the Crimson Tide's first appearance on the network since their 89-87 win over No. 1 seed North Carolina in the Sweet 16 in Los Angeles a year ago.
Alabama (27-8 overall) danced their way into a third straight Sweet 16 appearance Sunday with an 80-66 win over the Saint Mary's Gaels in the second round of March Madness.
The Crimson Tide had six players finish in double figures, with Chris Youngblood's 13 points leading the way. Grant Nelson had a big game in his first start since sustaining a knee injury in the SEC Tournament, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds. Mark Sears and Aden Holloway also added 12 points, and Clifford Omoruyi had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Alabama is making its fourth Sweet 16 appearance in five seasons under head coach Nate Oats. After beating North Carolina in the regional semifinals a year ago, the Crimson Tide took down the Clemson Tigers 89-82 in the Elite Eight to reach the school's first Final Four.
BYU (26-9) won a thriller over Wisconsin in the second round of the tournament Saturday night in Denver, getting a last-second defensive stop against Badgers star John Tonje for a 91-89 victory. Richie Saunders, BYU's leading scorer this season, had 25 points in the Cougars' win. BYU is making its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2011.
If Alabama beats BYU, the Crimson Tide would face the winner of No. 1 seed Duke vs. No. 4 Arizona in the Elite Eight on Saturday in Newark. Duke defeated Baylor 89-66 on Sunday to reach the Sweet 16, while Arizona beat Oregon, 80-76.
Alabama and BYU have met only one other time in basketball, a 71-59 Crimson Tide win on Nov. 24, 2017. Somewhat ironically, that game took place just over the river from Newark in Brooklyn, N.Y.
