D'Backs pitchers have been getting shelled this spring and with Webb almost assured of starting the season on the DL should we be looking to trade for a SP? This article mentions us looking at Boof Bonser and some possible trade partners with teams with a surplus of SP's. Is there someone out there that would help us on the cheap?

i don't get concerned about pitchers struggling in the early part of spring too much. They are finding the zone again and working on new pitches a lot of the time. Obviously its not a great sign, but its not anything to get too worried about.

Did anybody else notice that Brandon Webb came back from his year off just as fat as ever? Way to stay in shape for the team. I know there have been some very good fat pitchers but Webb really makes me mad. Being that unfit must put more strain on his entire body.

There is very good reason to be concerned about our starting pitching. Particularly since teams like the Giants, Dodgers and Rockies all have what appear to be at worst very solid staffs, if not better....

Our rotation is very good if Webb can come back and be at least 75% of what he used to be. Haren is still a star and Jackson is a great #3 starter. Kennedy will still be the guy that surprises everyone. He has the stuff of a borderline star even though this ballpark isnt the best fit for him. Look for him to have a better year than Jackson. Our 5th starter doesnt really matter. Im fine with Lopez/Mulvey in that spot.

So while the back-end of our rotation will struggle while Webb is gone, at least we can skip the 5th starter until the 19th of April.

Kennedy is a total crapshoot. He's done nothing thus far in the bigs to warrant much attention.
That said, as a Yankee fan I have had the chance to watch him and he certainly possesses the tools and the stuff to be much better than what he has shown thus far. Still, he has to show it when it counts and until he does, he's a total gamble...
Webb being on the DL places huge pressure on Haren. Not saying he can't rise to the occasion - I think he can. But the fact remains that Haren will be counted on to win everytime he steps on the mound...
As for Lopez/Mulvey - uggghhhh....

My concern is that we need 2 SP's to emerge. Webb is going to start the year on the DL and even with Jackson, Kennedy and Haren we only have three slots filled.

Too bad Jarrod Parker had Tommy John - would have been an ideal 4/5 this year. Lack of starting pitching depth in the farm system is really starting to annoy me.

It's not through lack of drafting, most of ARZ's last few drafts have been pitcher heavy, we have used a lot in trades and some have just not panned out. I would try and get a back end SP, I hope ARZ can get a young guy like Boof Bonser but it looks like our 4th and 5th starters are going to be from the pool of: Mulvey, Buckner, Lopez & Mr. Anna Benson.

It's too bad Rizzo isn't still here because he knew talent.
