At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Ben Roethlisberger—the 18-year veteran signal-caller of the Steel City—announced his retirement from the NFL, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers with a massive hole at the quarterback position.
A massive mistake was made just over three months after that fateful day: the drafting of Kenny Pickett with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, driven more by desperation than by a best player available (BPA) mindset.
Several analysts, fans, and draft experts have linked the Pittsburgh Steelers' 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to two QB prospects—Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart and Alabama's Jalen Milroe.
Dart and Milroe could both become franchise signal-callers in their own right, but the odds of them becoming the next great Steelers QB—rather than the next “Pickett”—aren’t worth gambling a first-round pick on.
The Philadelphia Eagles trading Pickett to the Cleveland Browns marks the third team in two years for Kenny Two-Gloves, so it's extremely safe to say he failed to live up to the Pittsburgh Steelers' expectations—and the same will happen with Milroe and Dart if they’re selected with the 21st overall pick instead of the 83rd in the third round.
