Andre Braugher and Laurie Holden are joining Thomas Jane in The Mist, Dimension Films' adaptation of the Stephen King story being directed by Frank Darabont, who also produces.

The script, written by Darabont, is set after a strange storm blows through a Maine town and its citizens are attacked by deadly creatures. A group of townfolks barricade themselves in a supermarket and struggle for survival.

"(Holden) was my leading lady in 'The Majestic,' and she is stupendous, talented and gorgeous," Darabont told The Hollywood Reporter. "She plays a very key role as one the people trapped in this existential Stephen King nightmare. On the good side of the aisle, she is the female lead of the movie."

"(Braugher) is Thomas Jane's neighbor, a high-powered attorney who has a weekend house in Maine. They have more of an adversarial relationship," Darabont added.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in mid- to late February in Shreveport, La.

If you like horror movies, this one is terrific.

Really well made, but I probably wouldn't see it again. The ending is spectacular and amazing, given today's entertainment climate. Let me just say kudos to Warner Bros. for letting Darabont follow through with his vision for the movie.

But I warn you, it is a very tough ending.

I thought it was pretty good - not great, mostly due to pretty horrendous special effects IMO. However, Darabount nailed the essence of King's best work - which is bringing a supernatural element to a group of people and then letting circumstance dictate the true horror of how society actually relates to one another. I've never read the novella, but this definitely had the same feeling I got from The Stand (which is probably my favorite book in King's career) from a character relationship standpoint.

And Chap's right, the ending is BLEAK... and handled a little over the top IMO, still good... but yeah, BLEAK.

I saw this movie last night and enjoyed it very much. That is two King movies in a row that didn't suck (1408 is the other one) he must be making decisions on the movies now.

I haven't read King since I was a kid, but my two favorites were Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption from Different Seasons and The Mist from Skeleton Crew. I remember as a kid wanting to see both of those made into films... Shawshank ended up being one of my all time favorite movies. I don't have the same hope for this film, but I can't wait to see it nonetheless.

Pure crap. Very predictable. Saw every "twist" miles before they happened, and no, I have not read the novella. Very disapointing.
Did the writers strike WHILE they were working on this?

I hope not. Most of his stories turned movies are awful because of his input. He hated Kubrick's adaptation of the Shining...then he made that terrible version for TV and made it exactly how he wanted it...yuk.

I think his main ideas are good, but he needs to let others run with those ideas to make them work on film.

This movie sucked. The preecher lady was quite possibly the most annoyin charcter in film history.

The CGI in this movie was beyond atrocious. Completely unacceptable with todays technology.

The only redeeming quality was the end which I think was damn good.

I think this movie was a hit or miss with a lot of people. I think the bible thumper lady did exactly what she was suppose to do. Annoy the living crap out of you!!! From that point you would have to say she did a great job.

Also from a 'what if this happened' point of view. I would get away from strangers as quick as possible. I would only want to be around people I trust or like minded.

I always like the short story, sorry to hear the effects weren't that good, but as to the theme.

It's why I always thought the Postman was underrated, when you have a band of thugs lead by a former copier salesman, that's good stuff right there.

I think a lot of people (including some on this thread) went in expecting one thing and getting something else. I liked it because it was a smart, thrilling character exploration. Others might think it boring, considering a majority of the movie takes place in a single location.

To each his own.

I recently watched it. This movie freaked me out. I love the lord of the flies aspect. This film wasn't about the special effects, it was about the psychology of the characters.

One of the best endings I've seen in a while. This one stays with you.
