He won't play again. Its quite the nod to our training staff that he went from playing at an all-star level star level still in 2011/12 to completely falling apart as soon as he left town.

Sad end to a Hall of Fame career and one of my all-time favorites. At least his final act as a Sun ended up really sticking it to the Lakers.

I was really hoping we'd swing a deal with the Lakers bringing Nash back so he can retire a Sun.

Unless he decides to do the Lakers a big financial favor and retires in the next few weeks then I could see him doing one of those token one day contracts to retire as a Sun next year.

Yes! I want five PGs on the roster next season.

Maybe KJ can re-up too when his term is over! :p

I'd forgotten about Nash's broken leg and the nerve issues he had coming back from that until a minute ago. I don't know if our staff could have spared him from that fate. A fluke injury that led to his career long back/nerve problems getting much worse.

KJ returned to the Suns once after he had retired so why not again (joking).

I agree with you about having Nash return on a token contract next season so he can retire a Sun although in the recesses of my mind I think the Suns medical staff could find some way to rehab him.

I don't want Nash playing much. I want him to put on the Suns #13, enter the game, make a three or get an assist, get a standing ovation, sit down and not play any more.

Crappy thing is that the Lakers don't mind paying him- his contract is nothing for the Lakers. If they were a normal team, I could see a Nash and Randle for some role players/ expiring contracts trade, but no way do the Lakers do that.

That was meant more as a compliment to the Suns medical staff.
Still, thinking of 2-time MVP Steve for the 2015-16 season (Suns medical staff notwithstanding) is, with all due respect, a fantasy. He is already the oldest player in the league.

I would think that Steve realizes that. Let's not hope to put him through torture. A 1-day contract a year from now so he can retire as a Sun is ideal.

I'd like to see the Suns put him in the Ring of Honor at the end of that game, but they will probably wait.

It's time for the Suns to do something different. Steve should go up there the same night he retires a Sun. I like your idea.

Really sad. Would have loved for him to hook up with a contender one last time.

I hope the Suns sign him next year to allow him to retire a Sun.

3 words from me:

Give it up!

OR

Retire already Steve!

Enough is enough.

Call it a great career and move on with life. It's obvious he can't go any more. It is no longer courage or toughness it is just milking the cow for all she's worth. And, I am NOT blaming him for that, it is just over.

Sad way to go out.

This makes me incredibly sad and pissed at what could have been.

One of the greatest to ever play. Not the most strongest, athletic or biggest guy in the league but always showed what hard and dedication can get you.

True inspiration to not just sports fans but everyone.

A shame he has to go out like this.

It's sad that he's going out like this, not just injured but injured as a Laker. I wonder if that has anything to do with his decision to officially retire or not. If he was with Phoenix and this happened I think he would retire to give the Suns some flexibility but since he's with the Lakers and they don't really have any direction or need for the savings then why not just ride out the year before officially calling it a career.

He got paid very well from the Lakers and won't retire as it is all about money. Don't balme him as its his last payday.

I hope the Lakers waive him and the Suns pick him up for the last home game of the year. Usually teams would hold on to a 10m expiring contract for a potential deadline deal but that's pretty rare these days so there's no real value for LA, except I guess for locker room chemistry.

Either way, I'd like to see him go out with a proper farewell.

Not like this Steve, not like this.

I will never forget some of the sick and impossible passes. Not to mention some of the clutch shooting. Will always be one of my favorite Suns and should be in the ring of honor.
