Leading up to the NFL Draft, there has been much debate regarding where Kelvin Banks Jr. will be picked. The former Longhorns offensive tackle was a brick wall during his college career and one of the best at his position. Due to his play, Banks is expected to hear his name called early on during the draft.
Just a few months ago, Banks was seen as a top-ten pick. However, in recent mock drafts, some experts have Banks going at the end of the first round. There has also been some talk of Banks moving to guard in the NFL, which has left Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian scratching his head.
"Yeah, I don't get it. As it pertains to Kelvin Banks, as I've told everybody, I think this guy is a premier tackle in the NFL," Sarkisian told the media Tuesday. “Whoever gets him is probably going to get a guy that’s probably going to play 10-12 years in the NFL.”
While at Texas, Banks was a model of consistency. He started 42 games and helped protect Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers. With Banks leading the offensive line, Texas put points on the board in a hurry and was hard to stop. Due to his play, Banks native finished his college career with an impressive trophy case.
During the 2024 campaign, Banks was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week twice. He was also a Lombardi Award winner and Outland Trophy winner. With Banks providing veteran leadership, the Longhorns were Joe Moore Award finalists last year. The award is given annually to the best offensive line in college football.
Regardless of where Banks is picked, he has the potential to be a future star. Any team that needs help on the offensive line and is looking for a future star will take a hard look at Banks.
