If we do use the stretch play more often it tells me that we are going to finally be using some sort of zone blocking schemes which we havent done ever and are changing the way the OL blocks,
Blocking schemes are not my forte, but as I understand it, the primary duty of most O-line guys during stretch plays is to wall off and "seal" the outside rather than to blast anyone backward. This places greater emphasis on pulling-skills, mobility and then holding the block once in position than it does pure drive-blocking power. A greater premium figures to be placed on technique.
(Note - I'd suspect that on stretch plays, someone has to still watch the inside to prevent pursuing LB's and DE's from coming down to cut off the runner's "back door.")
