I'm in facilities not IT but I still get my share.

We have a polycom phone in the board room with 2 external mics. the execs love to grab it to move the thing around so the pins on the cable on both mics broke off and now they don't hold in the phone. So I ordered 2 new mics, plugged them in, and tested it by calling our receptionist, no problems she heard me, I heard her.

Today I get a work request, please fix the phone in the boardroom when we "engage" the new mics that someone installed, they can't hear us on the other end. And yes, after investigating I discovered that "engage" the mics to them means, press the mute button! :bang:

It was even worse than that one guy explained to me he toggled the mute off and on and it made no difference. He was of course using the mute button on the phone itself, not the mics, which were both muted.

And the final straw, they unhooked them to "fix" the problem and in the process broke one of the pins off.

:(

The mood I'm in today, someone (probably Assface ;)) would have been dead meat if that happened to me.

Pretty dumb stuff. The new mics don't say mute, they have a picture of a microphone with a slash through it for mute. So the guys claim it wasn't obvious to them what the button was for???? What other button would you expect to find on a mic?

So I wound up having to scrounge for another cable to replace the one they busted in frustration, and wound up hooking up the old mics, with new cables.

The new mics work perfectly, verified that. I thought about printing out a label to attach to them that says MUTE, but I thought that would make me appear to be a smart azz.
