This is the stupidest argument ever. We're not going to convince those people that hate Igor with a passion. We just aren't. They are making stuff up to suit their flawed narrative and you can't reason with people like that.

Please, for all of our sakes, point to one positive, just one, that Igor has accomplished with this team this season (and don't cop out by pointing to two brief streaks of a week or two of good play, both of which are now in the distant past). Any team can get hot for a werk or two. What has Igor done in terms of progression over the course of the season?

Once again, this is NOT about how bad you think Igor is. We all know that, you've been whining about it for MONTHS.

This is about whether Igor has enough "experience" to be given a head coach position. And he does. Specifically, he has more than Majerle does.

How many years has Igor been the head coach of an American basketball team?

How many years has Majerle been the head coach of an American basketball team?

And before you cite Igor's head coaching experience in Europe, please note that European basketball is almost as different from American basketball as cricket is from baseball.

Look at this way, Ouchie. Under reasonable circumstances, I would not be advocating Majerle (with no NBA Head Coaching experience). Just as when I suggested tongue-in-cheek to consider Barkley for Chief of Basketball Operations because he has the cojones to stand up to Sarver. Or suggested, also tongue-in cheek, that the Ball's come over from L.A. (as much as I'd hate to see that), because the histrionics that would go on between Daddy Ball and Sarver could bring the problem of the ineptitude of our management to a head.

But under Sarver, we have to think in terms of least-worst. And I'd take Majerle with this young team (and his GCU experience) over another season of Igor, who is just not fit to coach young players. Contrary to your opinion, I think that Thunder Dan is just enough of a loose cannon to not give in to Sarver's meddling. He would either get in his face, or he'd smile, say, "Yes, Sir.", then do what he thinks is best anyway. I've met Dan.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

As I've had to post a few times now, to posters who respond with generalizations, I consider the specifics of each situation. I did it in management and I do it here. Robert Sarver has shown that he is not going to pay an experienced NBA Head Coach.

So, let's go easy on terms like "bs", "abandon", "go-to argument" and "changing stripes". Name-calling isn't going to accomplish a thing for the Suns. There is no "due respect" there. :(

We are all frustrated with the Suns performance over the past decade and the lack of progress even after a good draft. Thinking outside the box in this case makes sense. Are you really not that flexible? I'm serious. Why is Majerle's college coaching experience not better than Igor's lack of experience with this especially young team? A college coach works with young players whose rosters by definition constantly turn over.

BTW, please re-read your post. You've accused me of what you say I'd be "ranting and raving". (Easy, big fella). But then you criticize me for taking a different approach. Which is it? I am consistent in the bases of my opinions. But I think outside the box when necessary. Why does that bother you? And why are you intolerant of people with an opinion other than yours? C'mon. You know better than that!

I try to not take it personally, because I know you are venting. Again my question. Why is Majerle's experience in coaching young players not better than Igor's lack of experience with this especially immature team? Knowing that Sarver and his cohorts will not spend more than pennies out of their trillions for experienced leadership?
BC you apparently misread everything I wrote. I don’t have a comment good or bad in regard to the potential of hiring majerle. That’s not what I was commenting on . . . I was commenting on your flip flop. And you’re of course entitled to do so. There’s nothing that says someone has to consistently argue in a single direction. But ya gotta own it in my opinion.

Yes. I think its easy to get an idea of what is wrong, but then when you try to flesh it out in reality, it just doesn't hold water. I probably do it too with some things.

If that were true, Ouchie, there would be no divorces. But, right or wrong, there are.

Democrats or Republicans (such as Ronald Reagan) would never switch political
parties to match current needs. But they do.

One of my favorite sayings is, "A key to life is recognizing and setting priorities."

Yes, experience has been a key point in my commenting on a GM or Head Coach hire.

But strength of conviction (which Igor has not exhibited) has become a key detriment.

Especially when the chief investor hires low paid weaklings and steps on toes.

How can you not deal with specific situations with flexibility?

Would you call that flip-flopping? Or keeping up with the needs of the times?

As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures.

I enjoy sharing opinions. My priority is not to make it personal and win debates.

Let's watch the coming moves by management and see if anything changes.

It is absolutely hilarious that you think coaching and winning titles in elite European basketball is less qualifying experience than being an unsuccessful NCAA coach at a small school in a bad conference.

Completely different sport.

While we're at it, maybe the Cardinals should have hired a champion Australian Rules Football coach...

Yeah... they're basically using the same rules as the NCAA.

So, in your own logic, you're promoting the idea of hiring a minor league, unsuccessful, Australian Rules Football coach.

The NCAA now allows basket interference, has a wider lane/paint, and has new traveling and double dribble rules, among other things? Thanks for the revelation...

Lol, should we compare the NCAA’s rule book to the NBA’s and go over the countless differences?

Your argument is hypocritical and stupid in many many ways, but the biggest problem, and one that you continue to ignore is that even in the marginal world Majerle is coaching in... he hasn’t won anything.

His name being “Dan Majerle“ is his only qualification.

And what you continue to ignore is my repeated statement that Majerle is woefully underqualified, and I don't want him as head coach.

Just because I think Majerle is more capable and better qualified than Igor (which is about as low of a bar as can be set, in my opinion) doesn't mean I want him as the head coach.

Oh yes, I apologize.

I forgot that this was about your insane assertion that a low level college coach without success has a better resume than a guy who's won titles at elite levels in Europe and has been in the NBA as an assistant for well over a decade.

My mistake.

I'd take Majerle over Igor. He's horrible. Hes the Steve Wilks of the NBA . Cut your losses and move on. Should never have fired Gentry. I would actually prefer Musselman

I am pretty sure Dan would tell you that Igor is more qualified.
Lol c'mon the guy has made our number 1 pick a screen setter and has us jacking 3s when we Should be feeding that number 1 pick. I'm done with the Igor experiment

How many games did Ayton dominate in college while working in the post or in the paint? Please tell me what Igor did to change who Ayton was in the NCAA compared to the NBA. I'm not seeing much of a difference.

If you want to fault Igor for not getting Ayton prepared to do more then that's a valid criticism but saying he's made Ayton a screen setter who plays 20 feet from the basket is ignoring who Ayton was in college. Ayton is passive and that isn't something that can be fixed overnight.

It's not the coaches fault that Ayton isn't able to exploit mismatches inside or in the post. In order for Ayton to score he has to be fed in a position where he can score because he's not very good at putting the ball on the floor and making a play himself. That's something Ayton needs to work on, and Igor should have him working on, but it's not something Igor's to blame for.

You know, you’re making a tremendous assumption when you denigrate Igor’s strength of conviction and call him a weakling. We have ZERO idea what goes on behind closed doors. We have ZERO idea if Igor speaks up to Sarver. We have ZERO idea if Igor says yes to Sarver and does what he wants anyway the way you’re sure majerle would. I’m glad you have a strength in your convictions but understand your convictions are based 100% in conjecture . . . in regards to both Igor and majerle.

The only way Igor isn't completely passive behind closed doors is if he has a Jekyll/Hyde thing going.

The four rookies (Ayton, Bridges, Okobo and Melton) all have become progressively worse as the season has proceeded. That should tell you all you need to know about Igor.

I'm not a hyper Igor supporter. I maintain he needs a fair shot to show what he can do. Many reputable people think he is the real deal. The jury's still out for me. But I'm leaning toward "like".

I will say this, in Igor's offense Ayton has a PER of 20.81 (a decent way of assessing a players value: where 15.0 is average). That ranks #40 in the entire NBA. It also one of the higher PERs from a rookie in years (I'm not sure how many have finished 20+; two this year). For context, consider that Jayson Tatum finished at 15.29 last year and is currently at 15.26 and he's considered a star in the making.

Igor's offense has it's bugs. However, he's getting some historically high production from his rookie Center.

We basically have 2 groups here as far as Igor goes. One group considers him a very bad head coach and most of the rest fall in the "jury is out" group. I am hopeful but other than a few impressive defensive outings, I've seen nothing to convince me he's the right or wrong man for the job.

Also, the Suns have gone through some stretches of playing legitimately good team defense, in spite of having a very young roster of players who, for the most part, are not good individual defenders. That's quite remarkable, and doesn't happen without effective coaching. It may be fair to conclude that Kokoskov's weaknesses outweigh his strengths and that he doesn't have what it takes, but he definitely shows flashes of real coaching skill, rare though they may be.
