Does anyone know if America West Arena allows 35mm cameras during Suns games (if you're not carrying a press pass)? I just got a new Canon Digital Rebel camera with 70-300mm zoom lens and would like to bring it to tonight's preason game. I took my camera and lens to the Coyotes game last night and didn't have any trouble getting my equipment into the arena and took many great shots during the game and pre-game warmups. They only told me not to use the flash. But that was the Coyotes. The Suns/NBA might have a different policy regarding professional cameras.

Looks like my new camera equipment is staying home tonight. :(

I called the Phoenix Suns office. They told me only the small instamatic type cameras are allowed, no professional 35mm cameras. The guy said even if I managed to get past security into the arena, it would likely get confiscated inside. Bummer, I was hoping to get some cool close-up photos.
I wonder why the Coyotes don't mind 35mm cameras, but the Suns do?

That sucks. I don't understand it, but security is different for the Suns/Dbacks then it is for the Cards/Coyotes. Suns/Dbacks security is more like the gestapo. Cards/Coyotes they seem more relaxed and only jump in when really needed.

BIM, where did you find that picture of Robert De Niro? It looks like he was getting ready to do The Man of La Mancha. :)

When I went to the Nuggets game I had my Nikon 4300 digital with me. I asked the security guy, and he said as long as it wasn't a movie camera it was OK. I brought it in with me, didn't really get any great pics (the zoom on the camera sucks, we were in the upper deck). What the guy didn't know is that I did take a movie with the camera...Go Dance team! :D

That's a great camera! My wife has a few of the Cannon D60's and has been talking about getting one of the new Rebel's for fun stuff. Did you get the lens seperate or did you already have it??? I believe the lens it comes is an 18-51 which is great for wide angel but not so good for sports. I thing she took the D60 to one of the games last year - I'll have to ask her when she gets home.
My son also took one of his Cannon 630's to a game and sat under the basket taking photos, but that was a couple years ago so things may have changed. This, combined with not allowing logos to be posted, makes me wonder about the Sun's commitment to the average Freddie the Fan. :(

The 300D Digital Rebel rocks! I bought the 75-300 zoom lens separately. The kit lens is great for general picture-taking. But I needed something better for close-up shots. I took some awesome photos at the Coyotes game last night. I was hoping to do the same at the Suns game. I'd LOVE to get a shot of Amare going up for dunk in mid-air. But after being warned by the Suns office that professional cameras aren't permitted, I didn't want to risk getting my expensive new toy confiscated and have to go through the hassle of getting it back after the game. Let me know what your wife says about her experience taking a D60 to a game. I'm curious to know if they really do always enforce this camera policy.

Both my wife & son (different times) took their camera to at least one game and neither had any trouble.... I think this is something new.

BTW, the Nuggets don't care, they just want you to show up & you could probably look like a movie producer... all they want is fans.:fans:

Turns out what the guy at the Suns office told me regarding 35mm cameras was a big a load of crap. They don't care if you use a 35mm camera, even with a zoom lens.
I brought my equipment to both Thursday night's game and last night. No problems whatsoever with the arena security guys entering the arena. They checked out my camera bag, saw all my equipment and didn't say anything. They only care about camcorders being brought in. That they definitely won't allow.

I got some really nice shots last night, 9 rows from the court near the Suns bench. The ones I took Thursday night came out pretty good, even though I was up in Sec 219. That zoom works great!

I've posted a bunch of the photos from both games on my online photo gallery. Enjoy!

ROTFL

I saw it a few months back when he was holding his Tribeca film festival. Couldn't pass it up, so I bookmarked it and saved it for a future avatar.
