Bickley played a clip this morning that was very interesting. It was a local SoCal interview with Blake I believe.

The question was, "What is your Mount Rushmore of teams." Blake mentioned the Suns in that group. Said the Suns were like Teddy Roosevelt. Had character.

Said he really likes where the Suns are going and it would be great to get in on it before it all happens so he can say he was there at the beginning.

THAT is very promising.

Here is the exact quote. It was an interview with Michael Rapaport.

“I like to get in there a little early and stake my claim for the Mt. Rushmore and then when they blow up, it’s like hey, I was here from the beginning,” he added of picking Phoenix as a surprise member of his top NBA cities.

You seriously place lilliard and towns above George? Cmon. The rest I can live with. But he's arguably top 10.

Sure, it's always possible to debate everyone in the 7-20 range. I don't think it matters that much whether he's 9th or 11th. The point is that he's not a perennial MVP candidate, which 95% of contending teams need.

Also, while I admire George's comeback from injury, I think he's on borrowed time.

why? It's not like he hurt a knee... it was a clean leg break from falling. Once it's healed, it's not it's structurally damaged like scopes/ACLs are on knees.

Okay, I retract saying that George isn't a top-ten player. I still don't think he's good enough to be the #1 on a championship contender, but he's in the top ten.

Players that aren't either playing for a top 5 team or in a Yuuuge market are often undervalued.

Is anyone arguing that he's a legit #1? I think he's a solid #2 and an outstanding #3, but I wouldn't want George as my #1 unless my team was across the board solid #2s and #3s like that 2004 Pistons club was.

Just for the record. I think we are going to sign Blake.

It's the Suns. He'll end up choosing LA.

I wouldn't be thrilled with Griffin but I wouldn't hate it. Might help propel this team into the playoffs if he can stay healthy. Help the young guys get some experience the next few years while GS gets older, or can't keep everyone together.

here's my way of thinking if we DO sign Blake.

If that happens and Russell Westbrook decides not to sign his contract extension tomorrow, putting OKC in the precarious position of watching their last superstar walk away, I make a full-court press to get him.

Offer Bledsoe, Josh Jackson and our pick next year or the Miami picks if necessary... or ALL those picks.

THEN you'd actually have a team that could compete RIGHT NOW. Westbrook/Blake/Booker as your big three is as young, talented and multi-faceted as your going to possibly get. And the below team has SIZE... A LOT OF SIZE.

Westbrook
Booker
Chriss
Blake
Chandler

That team could be freaking nasty.

Bring Ulis, Warren, Bender, Dudley off the bench and you've got a team that can rock and roll right now and for the next five years.

We use Bledsoe to recruit Griffin, then ship him off to a rebuilding OKC team? Awesome line-up though.

It would probably be impossible but I'd love to see Jackson on that team.

I would too... but from a spacing standpoint I actually think Chriss might work better there... and I would have to believe Jackson would be a must-get in that pie in the sky scenario.

I completely agree that almost every player is a gamble. The key is understanding where on the spectrum does that gamble lie. If the gamble spectrum were 0 to 100 (0 being no gamble, 100 being a pure gamble), I'd put signing Griffin at an 85. The guy puts up great stats when he plays. The key word being 'when'. His health and other factors keep pushing that gamble toward the top. And don't forget the price tag will be immense.

I see Millsap as less of a risk depending on his contract. He's a far savvier player than Griffin that compliments this team. But even if he's less of a risk, he's still a good sized risk. Say, a 70 on the same scale. I wouldn't sign him either.

I just don't see the need to mess with the core of this team: Eric/Booker/Jackson/Chriss. Which is our 1/2/3/4. I'd sign mid level vets who come relatively cheap and become extra coaches to these young talented men. Eric leads the team at 1, Tyson at 5, Dudley from the bench. This team needs to slow cook, not be microwaved.

Our goal should be to duplicate what GS and SA did:

1. Draft well. (Check)
2. Sign low cost key vets to fill roles that compliment core.
3. Allow our young talent to develop.
4. Coach em up.
5. Trade anyone that doesn't fit.
6. Spend wisely so that we can resign our young talent to sensible team-centered contracts.

When we start winning with OUR team, that's when FA's will start showing interest. But we won't need them if we do this right.

This may be all well and good but we are not managing the franchise... fortunately or unfortunately. :)

I like the players on the Suns roster and want to see them develop but this is where basketball turns into a business. It appears McDonough is keeping his word when he said he would add a top free agent when available. I guess now is the time.

Additionally, McDonough's contract is expiring and the owner likely wants to see the Suns compete for a playoff spot sooner rather than later. Unless the Suns cannot sign a key player in free agency, it looks like the Suns are making their move to be competitive.

Hopefully the Phoenix bird is ready to fly.

I guess as many suspected, he was using us as leverage. Clips probably offered the fifth year.

I love the fact that when he is going for free agents he is going for the big guns. The last thing you want to do is give max contracts to lesser players.

Meh not really upset griffin would have been decent but his injuries is a concern...

Atleast now suns can focus on the current group let bender and len and jackson mature.
