I was trying to fool around with the NBA trade machine on ESPN.com...This team has a two atrocious contracts.

Josh Childress, per ESPN player rater: -1.48: 6.5 Million for 5 years....Does that mean he is guaranteed 32 million? Am I reading that correctly?

Hedo, per ESPN player rater: 3.47: 10 million for 4 years, if the above is correct, is he guaranteed 40 million?

WTF?

Without looking it up, these figures sound about right to me for both players. Welcome to the NBA where actual contracts mean guaranteed money. Hedo actually gave up some money to come to the Suns.

There's lots of people here who think the same thing.

I don't think there's a single person on this forum who likes having Hedo here for that money.

Childress is a bit more popular here but he'd better start showing he's worth the $6.5m a year we'll be paying him over the next few years, and soon. I hope his slow start is just because of his injuries or his deal could be worse than Frye's when all is said and done.

A question for everybody - since Hedo and Childress were clients of Babby before hejoined the Suns front office , and he essentially encouraged them to come here, is there some way we could get the NBA to void these contracts on conflict of interest grounds or something? Just voiding Hedo's will be enough. Please? :D

Childress will get better, mark it down. His minutes are sporadic and he has a splint (or covering or whatever) on the index finger of his shooting hand. Those 2 things would affect all players.

There are legitimate reasons to complain about Hedo, but Childress? Not so much, considering he gives us great minutes every time he steps on the floor.

And you can see him cringe every time he uses that hand. A smart organization would have looked at the overload we had at his position and sat him until he fully healed. A dumb organization would put him in a position to continually re-injure his hand so that he can make it through a full season without playing anywhere near his capacity. I wonder which one we are. I love his hustle but I'd love it even more if he was somewhere near full strength.

I think our doctors (which are the best in the biz) have said all along that there really was no danger in injuring it further as long as he wore the protection, which is why he's played. But I also think that's why his minutes have been so sporadic. I don't think judgments can be made at this point.

Well, I ain't no doctor but, frequently, when he uses that hand, he reacts like a person does that has just jammed or hyper-extended a finger. I don't see how that can have anything but a negative impact on the health of that hand even if it isn't the original injury that he's grimacing from. Maybe the stint is making him more prone to other issues. Regardless, from the initial reports it should have long been healed by now.

Favoring the finger to me is more mental than physical. You don't believe that? If there is one single thing that we don't have to worry about with this team, it's with the medical and training staff.

Watch him, Chap. He frequently grimaces and/or grasps his hand after fighting for a loose ball or a rebound. That's not mental, that's pain. He's not showy when he does it but you can see it nonetheless.

I watch him, and if he's in so much pain, why is he still dunking the ball? I don't believe he did it in the Memphis game, but he certainly did in the game before that.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, I just think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. And there are FAR more pressing issues with this team than Josh Childress's finger. The OP implied that he was one of the problems with our roster, and I don't think that's the case, at least right now it isn't.

Yeah, to say it's not impacting his play, even at this point is ignoring the obvious. He's always grabbing it and grimacing, and I really hope that is the main reason for his horrid shooting. He seems to have no range at this point beyond 10 feet. At best, he looks like a poor man's Marion.

I see him do it almost every time he takes the court and I was starting to wonder why no one else was seeing it. My eyes aren't what they used to be (neither is my mind for that matter) but I was pretty sure it was the Suns I was watching.

He's been very disappointing and yet you can see flashes of the kind of player who could really help us. I'm hoping they're sitting the guy until it heals fully so we can see more of that guy who can really help us.

I agree. (Probably the first time I agree with you too)

But yea Childress reminds me of Hill. Good defender, can cut and finish at the rim.

Once Hill retires, Childress will be great for us. But until then, he's gonna be stuck behind Hill and Dudley.
