Suns sign Tyus Jones

That Christmas game is probably about as dark as my mindset as a fan has ever gone for a regular season game.

Brutal.

I didn't necessarily expect even a win. I was not expecting to be curb stomped. My family was so happy to have the Suns game on to watch on Christmas Day. That was really a kick in the nuts!

Earlier in this thread, back in august, I mentioned that KD is eligible for a 1 year contract due to the 38 year old rule. So far this trade hasn't worked out for the best, last season we are down on wins and the product was just awful to watch.

Now with KD still on the books for two more years, 24-25 and 25-26, extending him beyond this is just asking for trouble. The trade didn't only impact what we gave up for KD (twins + picks), but the future as well where it extends beyond KD's current contract. Just doing business alone means we HAVE to keep KD and extend him, it would be bad business if we didn't. We are wasting Books prime years locked into Beal and KD as our big 3.

I'm hoping we swing a deal with Houston, who now owns the picks we traded Brooklyn. They're in the market for a star and have our picks plus young talent. Supposedly they want Booker more, which makes sense for them but they kick rocks in that regard.

I didn't realize that Tyus and Grayson played together at Duke. I knew they were both Duke guys but Tyus came out after his freshman year while Grayson was a 4 year player. They had the same rookie/freshman year in 2014-15 where they won a NCAA championship.


Kind of interesting, Jahlil Okafor was also there. Of course the Suns let him go, basically, but that could have added another layer had he been kept around.

I read somewhere that the Grayson connection was another reason he chose to come here.

Right, the KD trade has longer implications than we realize.

Zero doubt that Tyus is a talented player but I'm starting to wonder if he's the PG for this team. He's slow and methodical when running the offense, like CP3 could be, but he doesn't have much of an offensive game outside of initiating for others. He doesn't have the midrange game Paul had/has. He's not the type to drive to initiate contact either, when he drives he weaves around others consistently. He'll pass up layups to kick out for semi-open 3's from others, which needs to stop. He's a decent 3pt shooter when he's not rushing it or passing it up altogether in hopes of an assist. He's not a good defender, he lacks the foot speed to keep up with opposing PG's.

Overall he's a weird fit here and isn't being used to maximize his talent or the teams strengths. He should be playing the second half of the 1st quarter after our offense tries building a cushion for Tyus to maintain with the bench. He should be used the second half of the 3rd quarter and first minutes of the 4th. Manage the game while the Big 3 get rested for a final push. Maybe keep one of them on the floor with him for all of his minutes except the start of the 4th. Only bring him back in if turnovers become an issue or the offense continually stalls out.

Bottom line is he's a backup or Sixth Man who has hustled himself into a starting job because he is underpaid and took maybe 20% of what he could have received elsewhere. He has talent and we can use it.njr.the way he's been used hasn't worked well.

I'd like to see Morris eat up some of his minutes. He plays more like we need a PG to play in terms of being a good confident outside shooter and playmaker. Not a good individual defender but seems more accustomed to team defense than Tyus.
