Mark Curtis just reported that the Suns are targeting Kobe, Ginobili, Nash, and Rasheed Wallace.

Funny, this is the first time Sheed's name has been tied to the Suns, but Curtis reported it as a fact, not rumor.

The Cs scoffed at the idea they would trade Marion for Sheed earlier this year. I cant imagine they would want both on the team....

Boy, that would be weird. First of all, it's hard to see his personality working in Phoenix. But secondly, why bother to make him one of the top targets, when Detroit will almost certainly match a max deal?

Monetarily I think Detroit will beat any team, but they can't force him to sign with them.

True, I shouldn't have said "match," which implies a RFA situation.

But why in God's name would Wallace choose Phoenix over Detroit, if the money is the same?

Heres what Im thinking..WTF for?? Is he gonna play center?

That's exactly what I was thinking. I can't imagine signing someone to near max money to be a backup. He's not really a center. He can play either forward position. So are we going to bring Amare or Shawn off the bench?

This doesn't make sense unless there is a trade in the works--which would mean Marion.

At least Curtis didn't list Okur. That's a step in the right direction. :bday:

Sheed can play center. He is 6'11 with very long arms and plays very good defense.

His offensive game complements Amare really well.

He would be higher on my list than anyone outside of Kobe. I liked the attitude he showed in Detroit. He is just showing his emotion and doesn't care what people think.

He was happy in Detroit for the first time in his career. I simply can't imagine that he'll leave.

I'm actually a lot less down on Sheed than I was in the past. He's still got a volatile personality, but nowadays it looks like nothing like K-Mart's, and people are for getting him, so...

Detroit has Bird rights with Rasheed, but has to clear space to keep Okur. Am I right on this? It seems that it would be alot harder lure Sheed away.

Would you consider picking up Rasheed Wallace and maybe Brent Barry a successful summer? (If Kobe falls through).

Think of Miami and the Clips last year.

Miami offered Elton Brand the max even though the Clips were sure to match...

Well, grahamcrackr already pointed out that this isn't a RFA situation.

But besides that, it wasn't completely clear that the Clippers would match. There was considerable speculation that, by front-loading the contract as severely as they did, the Heat were maximizing their chances of luring Brand away.

I hate Okur, but if they wanted Okur the easiest way to get him would be to force Detroit to overpay to keep Sheed thus eliminating the cap money they had set aside for Okur. HoopsHype does not show Sheed on salary for this year, giving the Pistons $33.5 in cap space. To keep Sheeds Bird rights would eliminate their entire cap space and reduce them to MLE for Okur.

I think Utah will offer more than the MLE for Okur, so they are SOL. :p

The case against Sheed as a Sun has more to do with his personality than his play. He was well behaved under Larry Brown on a veteran team, but I'm not sure he wouldn't revert if he left.

As a player I think Sheed would be a huge plus. He would play center on defense and PF on offense. The rap on his is that he doesn't want to play offense in the low block which would be just fine with Amare.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that, but that's a good point.

Rasheed might give Detroit an opportunity to match anyway, you know, out of the goodness of his heart or something.

I don't dislike him, but it would be the weirdest thing ever to see Sheed in a Suns uniform. He can definitely play, but even so, it would take some getting used to.

I think Wallace needs a coach who is very experienced with problematic players and can command "take no crap" respect.

It's hard to see how D'Antoni would qualify.

I really like D'Antoni, but I have to agree.

Mark Curtis doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to the Phoenix Suns. He was probably just spouting off a bunch of names that somebody put in front of him. I trust Gambo for my Phoenix Suns information more than him. That's not saying a lot.

This IS a big problem. Sheed won't be playing center for us or anyone. He's a power forward. I could even see him playing small forward with Amare as the power forward. However, then why would we need Marion? He can't play the two. The Suns have tried that. If you spend the bucks on Sheed, you have to play him based on the money you will spend on him. He's too expensive to be a roll player. If we keep Marion, then you have a lineup like:

Amare PF
Sheed SF
??? C
Marion SG
JJ PG

Does that make ANY sense to anyone here? Unless the Suns are planning on moving Marion, this doesn't make sense.

If the Suns GET Kobe, then it makes sense, if you can trade the Matrix. Then you would have a lineup like this:

Amare PF
Sheed SF
???? C
Kobe SG
JJ PG

That looks like it would work a whole LOT better. That's a lot of moving players to get to that lineup. Then we are right back to the big Kobe question again. :(

I think they're just speculating--we have been the only team doing anything right now, so obviously we must be interested in everyone. :D
