Today the Suns meet the Jazz in summer league play with a 5:00 p.m. Arizona start time on ESPN 2 and NBA TV. The Jazz are 0-3 and the Suns are 1-2.

At least one team should feel better about themselves after the game.

Another chance for Bender to be assertive (whether he sees the ball or has to chase it down on the boards) and Chriss to play with his head and heart in the game.

Reed and JJ have been pretty good but JJ has not had a "break out" game yet. Don't know if high scoring is his game or if he's more of the all around dude, it still would be nice with 20,15 and 8.

Okay, since it's summer league and Mike James does not pass the ball let's say 20, 15, 4 ast and 4 stl.

He doesn't? He's averaging almost 5 assists per game in the Summer League--that's in the top 10. His Turnover numbers aren't great, but he's shooting pretty well for a PG in Summer League and has a high number of rebounds a game (nearly 6).

This has been discussed in the other thread ;) besides we'll have to see some ast:to numbers and ast/36. I'm keeping a light hearted tone here. Have to discuss something right? On to the game. Let's go Bender, Chriss, Jackson and Reed!

I'd be ok if they just shut down Chriss. By the very nature of the Summer League, I don't see why it's even needed for him. Bender, Reed, JJ, sure.

Yup, just like how Booker didn't belong last year.

Summer league's value is dubious enough as is, for a player who has already seen starting minutes in real games it is completely pointless.

I agree. Sit Chriss and get him on a diet and some exercise programme that does not put pressure on his legs. The big crissant.

Chriss needs to get in game shape, not gonna happen riding the pine. Shows poor discipline coming into his second year out of shape, that is the one thing you are in total control of. It's not like he's recovering from an injury that has kept him sidelined from the gym.

So does Booker, so does Bledsoe. But they don't need the Summer League for that. Why does Chriss?

I don't think Chriss is in the same class as Booker, at least yet. Booker is a much more mature player.

Besides, Chriss needs to find his correct playing weight. Game action is the best way to get in shape. Also, Chriss needs to work on taking the game seriously no matter the situation.

Ok, even if what you say is true, he does summer league to figure out he isn't at his correct playing weight. He goes for the next two months losing weight. How does he figure out if THAT is the correct weight? There's no games to play, right? So how does he figure it out? In practice, of course. You don't need Summer League for that.

I just find it interesting that you state that "game action is the best way to get in shape". How does Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker, Alan Williams, TJ Warren and Tyler Ulis stay in shape if there is no game action?

I smell a trick question. I'm sure you know the players you mention workout all the time. However, game action is different.

I will say this, I don't think Chriss is the type of player the Suns should make an exception. I didn't like his attitude from the start of summer league. IMO, he needs the work.

You're right that Booker is more mature, but I don't see how summer league breeds maturity. It's terrible basketball with unlimited fouls. It's a farce that would only serve to reinforce the kinds of stuff that Chriss needs to get away from.

Chriss needs to reel himself in, summer league is the last place that happens.

As for getting in shape, a few games over a week won't do that, the training staff should get on that without risking him in terrible exhibitions.

I think if Chriss came out and made a statement in his first couple of summer league games, then sitting him would be more excusable. As it stands now, it would almost be rewarding him. I'm not sure this is the right message to send to a young player. As it stands now, I'm for letting the Suns do what they see fit.

So shut him down because he is out of shape... I don't care the reason, because he isn't missing out on anything.

I do care about the reason but it is not my decision to make. I would not want attitude to be the reason to remove him.

If the Suns think he cannot carry his weight, this is a medical decision. However, I would hope Chriss came into summer league in shape.

If I'm going to rip the guy this much, I think it's only fair to point out the Mike James has looked really good running the team at the start of this game. Hopefully, he keeps up this mindset.

Also on ESPN.com.

The Wolves vs Warriors game was on ESPN before I switched to NBA TV.

I missed the beginning of the Suns game on ESPN 2. It is supposed to be on ESPN. Maybe the Suns game delayed because of the other game?

My guess with his weight is he intended to bulk up but went about it wrong. Should not be too hard to fix.
