Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, softball fans — Texas and Oklahoma are vying for national supremacy.

It’s not a tale as old as time, at least not in the college softball world, but over the past few years, the Longhorns and the Sooners have gone round and round.

So it goes again this season.

Since the second week of The Oklahoman’s College Softball Super 16, Texas and Oklahoma have held the top two spots. No other team has managed to knock either of them from those top perches.

But they’ve managed to bounce each other.

Texas held the top spot for three weeks, then OU moved to No. 1 for two weeks, and now, Texas is back at the top.

Does this mean we could be in for another Women’s College World Series tinted crimson and burnt orange?

Sure seems possible.

In the past three years, the programs have met five times in the WCWS, including twice facing off in the best-of-three championship series. OU is undefeated in those games.

And even though Texas made the championship series in 2022 as an unseeded team, the teams were seeded one and two in the NCAA Tournament before playing for a title a year ago.

In case you’re wondering, Texas and OU will play their SEC series April 25-27 in Norman.
