The Super Bowl champions were named a "best team fit" for an Indianapolis Colts free agent safety, Julian Blackmon.

Nick Shook of NFL.com recently selected the best fits for 13 free agents who remain unsigned. On that list was Blackmon, who Shook paired up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Blackmon is a proven baller, needs a job and deserves a chance to play for a contender," Shook wrote. "Vic Fangio is also a proven expert at fitting versatile players like Blackmon into the perfect roles and maximizing the return. This pairing almost feels too obvious. We can't keep letting the Eagles get away with this!"

Blackmon put together a career season in 2023, playing the strong safety role in the Colts' defense. His production would dip this past year, however. A shoulder injury suffered early in the year led to Blackmon moving back to free safety, where there can be fewer opportunities than when playing in the box.

With the exception being this past season when Blackmon dealt with a shoulder injury, he's been a reliable tackler throughout his career and a sound run defender as well, according to PFF's metrics. He's totaled seven interceptions over the last two seasons.

The Colts re-signing Blackmon this offseason always felt unlikely and is now not in play after the team brought in Cam Bynum. The Colts seemed comfortable a season ago letting Blackmon head elsewhere, but with his market not taking shape in 2024, he returned to Indianapolis on a one-year deal.
