Voice Cast Announced for Surf's Up

Jeff Bridges will lead a cast that includes Shia LaBeouf and Zooey Deschanel for Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming CGI film Surf's Up, hitting theaters June 22, 2007.

The animated feature is based on the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins. The film profiles up-and-coming surf penguin Cody Maverick (LaBeouf) as he enters his first pro competition.

Bridges will voice the character of "the Geek," a washed-up, overweight and cantankerous King Penguin who becomes young Cody's mentor. Deschanel will play Lani, the penguin lifeguard of Pen Gu Island's South Beach.

James Woods, Jane Krakowski, Jon Heder, Mario Cantone, Brian Benben and Michael McKean have also been cast.

Surf's Up is being directed by animators Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2) and Chris Buck (Tarzan).

I am going to see this some time this week. Maybe on Wed. My daughter doesn't want to have anything to do with it.

I read a review that this is the best "penguin" movie to come out, and apparently that includes the documentary March of the Penguins.

It was definitely much better than Happy Feet IMO. But MArch of the Penguins is a documentary so I dont think its fair to compare them.
