Surprise Homecoming (TLC)

Billy Ray Cyrus is used to cameras following him, but for TLC's "Surprise Homecoming," the focus is on the families of soldiers.

The country singer hosts the new reality show that helps reunite military men and women with their families, only the families aren't aware of when their loved one is returning.

"Being a part of 'Surprise Homecoming' has truly been an honor and a privilege for me. Not to mention a whole lot of fun," said Cyrus. "I love the joy of surprises! My favorite part about Christmas and birthdays is having that special gift that no one knows is coming. In this case, it's even better. Our soldiers and their families have made, and continue to make, a huge sacrifice for our freedom and protecting this great country that we live in. This is my way of saying 'thank you'."

Clearly you know nothing about Billy Ray. He's been overseas to perform for the troops many times. The military has always had a special place in his heart. He got a lot of pub for "Achy Breaky Heart" and a few other songs, but his most meaningful song is probably "Some Gave All."

I stand by my statement.

The best way for country has beens to resurrect their careers to to play the patriotic card.

Except for Miley he hasn't had a career since Achy Breaky Heart.

Agreed.

Trivia: Any idea who was the first "celebrity" to perform for the troops in Afghanistan?

Iraq?

Stan = Joan Jett

Iraq = Kid Rock and Gary Sinise. Kid Rock, god bless him, performed for us in an aircraft hangar that had to have been 140-150 degrees in there. He was drenched, but didn't care. Stayed after for 1 1/2 to 2 hours posing for pics and signing autographs.

My point exactly.

Do you see Joan Jett or Kid Rock making a TV series about it?
Sometimes the best work is dome behind the scenes without the glory.

IMHO, Billy Ray is all about him and if the ratings are not there the show won't be either.

If that makes me lame BIM so be it.

He's been on USO tours and giving free concerts to military men and women here in the states without any publicity. I only know about it because of family and friends in the military that all appreciate what he does for them - not just with the concerts and USO tours but he's assisted with a ton of charity work like Operation Phone Home, etc. A lot of what he does goes unnoticed by the general public (you included).

I put this show on here because my wife and I were watching it and because it hasn't gotten much publicity.

If he was in it for the publicity this would be a prime time NBC or CBS show.

BTW - this isn't P&R. No need to try and turn every thread into a steaming pile of ...

So sick of this place sometimes.

The man has been on every morning show, The View, Regis, and all the entertainment shows.

Did you ever think there may be a good reason why the major networks didn't pick it up.

Then leave.

Sorry, O...I rank the opinion of the men and women of the military much higher than yours when it comes to Billy Ray Cyrus. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Maybe you just don't like the guy or something?

Regardless of the Billy Ray thing, I think this show looks pretty cool. Love the previews. Haven't seen an epsiode yet.
