Would the cardinals have done the following in previous offseasons?

1. Inquire about one of the top franchised player like Takeo Spikes?
2. Consider bringing back a guy who we made a mistake with and released years ago (Ricky Proehl)? Although I will say that bringing frank sanders back would probably be about equivalent to bringing in proehl from a production standpoint.
3. Sign the top free agent quarterback available? (blake - I think he was the best out there..but not everyone will agree - I liked greise at first - but we cannot wait until after June).
4. Been all over an older player who is the leading rusher of all time? (emmit).
5. Willing to overpay the best guy at a high need position (colvin - we did the same with starks last season - but this seems to be a relatively new trend).
6. Not tagging any players (although we should have)..
7. actually beat out some teams on free agent signings (not only one - but many - hodgins, darling, jackson, perhaps davis if green bay was having him in). Granted - we are still losing guys like colvin - but our % is improving on guys we want..

And who knows what else they have done that we do not know about? we could have checked into douglas, seau, etc.

I was thinking today that in the aggregate we are doing quite a bit of stuff that I have not seen the cardinals do in the 8 years I have been closely following the team.. we may have only done like 1 or 2 of the things above (like going after a starks or kendall) - but we usually stopped there.. Buddy brought in quite a few new free agents - but they were well past their prime and we overpaid them..plus he cut some guys that would have been better to have on the team in the long run..

Why do I bring this up? If we have done all of the above - we may have also done the following that we do not know about:

1. inquired about hugh douglas
2. Had discussions about trading up or down in the draft.
3. inquired about KVB (another restricted player).
4. Inquired about obtaining brian griese.
5. Inquired about jamir miller.

We probably should not rule out anything at this stage..

Since I have been following the cardinals the past 8 offseasons..if you add everything up you can see that business is being done alot differently in the fact that we are considering more options. I am sure they considered the same moves historically - but we seem to be acting on things much more..Given the new direction - I bet the cardinals would be a candidate this year more than ever to move up or down in the draft (if the guys we covet are gone).

Great Post Pinnacle...I think there is a very good possibility that the Cards will trade down...if they don't acquire the 3 from the Texans in a trade....and Suggs and Newman are gone....nice post.

Rats...I think we will at least inquire about moving up- suggs seems to be a great fit from a need and desire (he has said he really wants to play here) standpoint - I think we will at least attempt to move up - but it depends on the price. On the other hand..if the guys we really wanted are gone at #6 - I could see us trying to trade down and not reaching for someone.. both of these positions would be changes from a historical perspective.. At the end of the day we will probably draft at #6 - but I think we are exploring all options..more so than in the past.

I wouldn't rule out trading up or down but the odds are in favor of inertia - in most instances where everyone speculates about trades, the team keeps the pick.

I think well stand pat at #6. This is a good spot, there are several different players that can help this team that might be there and we can just sit back and see who drops...

QB DE DT CB any of those will help us...

Great post pinnacle

At the begining of FA the thought of trading up scared me. We just had way too many holes on this team to give up extra draft picks. Now the Cards have filled in a decent number of these holes and trading up for Suggs is more of an option.

If the Cards sign a vet WR or even Jenkins and Sanders then I'm not worried about this unit.

The DT's are serviceable but I wouldn't rule out an early pick at this position.

A quality starter at center would be nice. :)

An upgrade at CB is a must.

If we draft Suggs then the DE's are greatly upgraded.

We still have a ? at SLB, but between Fisher, Darling, Jones, Faulk etc we may be okay.

Depth at RB is still somewhat of a concern, but not critical.

So the Cards resign Jenkins or Sanders or get Conway, sign McBride, sign Emmitt and now the draft can be all about getting Suggs and Johnson or Faine.

If this doesn't work then trade down and draft the BPA with a keen eye on D-line, C, CB, QB and pray that somehow we have or can get a DE that can apply a decent pass rush.
