First mentioned in the "remake" thread...

Mostow to Direct Swiss Family Robinson
Source: Variety
June 15, 2005

Walt Disney Pictures has hired Jonathan Mostow to direct its remake of Swiss Family Robinson. Variety says Mostow will take the script by Greg Poirier and rewrite it with Sam Montgomery (who wrote Breakdown and U-571 with Mostow).

The studio considered putting the story into a contemporary setting, but changed it back to the book's 19th-century period. Filming is expected to start in Australia next year.

Well, at least they kept it in the 19th century. Most remakes today "update" the stories.

Yeah, they could have had they taking off from Sydney in a private jet, radio malfunctions, get 1,000 miles off-course and crash land (safely) on an island with creatures that don't belong in that part of the world........

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

One of my favorite movies as a kid. I must have watched it 100 times.

Why the hell remake this one? A coconut bomb is a coconut bomb. It's not like they can make it better.

:stupid: LOVED the original! I don't like the thought of a remake of this one!
