Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt posted an incredibly cryptic story on Instagram on Wednesday, one that probably had fans panicking over his status with the team.
The story featured a photo of Watt seemingly saying goodbye on the field in his Steelers jersey, which ... you know ... feels just a bit ominous to his future in Pittsburgh.
With Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett landing a record-breaking contract extension, fellow elite pass-rushers like Watt will undoubtedly be interested in leveling up their own paychecks for what they provide on the field.
We know that Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson and Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Micah Parsons want new deals, so it'd make a lot of sense for Watt to want one, too.
The 2025 season will be the last one on Watt's current deal with Pittsburgh, as he's slated to be a free agent in 2026. That makes this post even more interesting since the two sides will need to come to terms sooner than later.
However, this post does not necessarily mean Watt is requesting a trade or saying farewell to Steelers fans.
Honestly, it could just be a photo Watt wanted to share. Who's to say? The team literally just posted about him on X (Twitter) on Wednesday, which would be a bit strange (or poorly timed) if there was tension between the two sides.
For now, Steelers fans should take a deep breath and not read too, too much into Watt's post, as tempting as it can be to do just that.
Him wanting a new deal and a contract impasse developing between the two sides would not be a shocker, but nothing is being reported right now. This is just a mystery for the moment.
