I am looking to get a Talet PC, an application at work requires one.
Does anyone have experience with these?
I am currently looking at the Toshiba. It will have to be a beefy machine, lots of memory. a big hard drive, and a great video card.
Any suggestions or recommendations?

I have played around with a few at work, but I've never really worked on one before. Just curious type of application is requiring the tablet PC? Something with .Net or the journal function.

I worked with the HP/Compaq tablets and they are pretty neat little toys, but tend to be a little bulky for the average user

This is not your atypical application so bear with me and I'll explain.
I'm a Lighting Director, stage lighting, mostly for corporate events.
All control is becoming ethernet based with IP addresses. The information from my lighting control console is distributed to all my fixtores via an ethernet hub. This is fast becoming the norm in the entertainment industry.
The company that makes the control consoles is coming out with remote focus software which connects through a wireless router.
On a typical show I can have anywhere from twenty to a thousand fixtures that I have to focus. The remote focus software allows me to load the console software on a Tablet PC, which the company that makes the software recommends, and have complete control of my system through a wireless connrction while I'm standing on stage.
Needless to say this eliminates a lot of man hours when focusing.
Along with the console software I will have cad programs and cad visualization software on the machine, thus the reason for needing a beefy machine.
Whew, sorry for being long winded but that's what I need a Tablet PC for.

I have used both compaq and toshiba's and I think the toshiba is much better hands down.

The compaq I used was their original one, and it was just way too underpowered. That might not be the case anymore though with new models.
