Im ashamed to admit Ive never tailgated in the lot of a sporting event. What kind of cooking facilities are we talking? A grill? Is the food pre made at home?

I suck.

MESA! :thud:
It all depends on you. BleedingRed brings this GINORMOUS grill & he cooked steak for everyone, had baked & twice baked potatoes...rolls...it was amazing. As I understand it, after the game he had brats, too.

abomb brought what looked like either shredded bbq beef or bbq pulled pork & they had sandwiches of that, along with potato salad & pickles...it smelled sooo good.

You can do whatever you want to do. I know some of the people on here (derm, & like I said, bleedingred) have some pretty elaborate set ups.

I suck.

I stick to simple stuff like burgers and brats but we have been known to have other stuff including kabobs and fajitas. The guys we tailgated with at SDS deep fried a turkey one Thanksgiving.

I am looking for something new and need suggestions and hopefully recipes.

If you have a grill, a great thing to do is pork spare ribs, cooked entirely at home, and then put on a hardwood grill for char and smoke. You could do that standard BBQ style and I could throw togetther a nice soy sauce based recipe that would be tasty as hell as well. These take time, but I imagine would impress the holy shnikeys out of people. lemme know and Ill try and dig up some recipes.

Pork spare ribs? Maybe the best messy finger food in the world!

honestly I'm pretty week for football tailgating - i've traditionally done just sandwiches and things that can be packed in a cooler

during buffett shows we'd grill up all sorts of things - we always tried to bring something different than the normal - a variety of kabobs would work great - this way we could get into bartering with our fellow tailgaters

i just picked up a smoker and am starting to get into BBQ - i think i'll set aside some pulled pork that I could reheat at the games this year

That sounds awesome. The only grills allowed are gas. Maybe I can get some wood chips or something....hmmmm

Wood chips would be perfect. lemme think up a recipe for you. Youll have it before the regular season starts.

And in the spirit of it all here is my wife's salsa recipe:

Tina’s Salsa

I usually halve the amounts so it fits in my blender and blends well* so depending on your blender size, you may want to do the same and make 2 separate batches.

2 lg cans whole tomatoes (28 oz)
1+ bunch green onion chopped (2 C)
1+ bunch cilantro chopped
1 mini (4 oz) can jalapenos (1-2 tsps) for MILD OR whole can for HOT OR 3-6 whole fresh jalapenos chopped for HOT
1 mini (4 oz) can green chilies (fire roasted if possible)
garlic powder to taste
salt and pepper to taste

Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend to desired consistency. Chill overnight for best results!!!
