Notre Dame will open the NCAA Tournament against Stephen F. Austin on Friday in South Bend. So that means it's time to look at how the teams rank in the major statistical categories from a national perspective.
Let's be real though: The Irish aren't losing this game unless they decide they've had enough of this season. A No. 14 seed has not won a tournament game since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1994. So history is not on the Ladyjacks' side.
What's more, the Irish are among the best in the country in many categories. In fact, they rank at the top in 3-point shooting despite not having a single player qualify for the ACC leaderboard. That shows almost anyone can make a shot from downtown at any moment.
In the interest of fairness, we will indeed look at these teams' stats just to see how they measure up to one another. So here they are:
Notre Dame ranks fifth in scoring nationally with 84.7 points a game and is tied for 117th nationally with 62.1 points against a game.
