TalkSPORT pundit tears into Chelsea duo’s form, labels one “absolutely redundant”

Former Blue Tony Cascarino has torn into current stars Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku for their recent poor form.

Chelsea made a brilliant start to the season, but a post Christmas slump has left them with little room for error over the final nine games if they want to qualify for the Champions League.

Enzo Maresca’s men currently sit fourth, although Newcastle could leapfrog them if they win their game in hand, whilst Chelsea have the most difficult run-in of the teams looking to secure Champions League qualification.

Chelsea should be boosted by the return of Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke after the international break, with Maresca hopeful the pair will be back for Tottenham game on April 3rd.

The collective drop off from earlier in the season has been alarming and Chelsea need to somehow get back to that form.

Many players have struggled in recent weeks, but seemingly none more so than Sancho and Nkunku, with Cascarino not impressed with what he’s seen from the duo.

“Sancho, from the player I watched at Crystal Palace, who looked really good, has lost his way as the season has gone on,” he told talkSPORT.

“Nkunku, the guy I watched in Germany at Leipzig, and he really was a handful to play against, looks absolutely redundant in the Chelsea team. He doesn’t look like he’s going to cause any issue.”

Sancho hasn’t scored since December, and is believed to be pushing for a return to the Bundesliga, with Chelsea able to pay a £5m penalty fee to send him back to Manchester United.

Nkunku on the other hand has looked uninterested with it more than likely he will leave in the summer, and Bayern Munich had expressed strong interest in January.

In the meantime Maresca has got to find a way to get the duo contributing as they will be needed for the final sprint to the finish.
