Bye. We hardly knew ye.

Paul Coro: The Suns waived Taylor Griffin, last year's second-round pick who made eight appearances last season.

Second round pick, dude. Come on. No big deal. Was there anyone of major note who came after him?

As an aside, I assume that you would have preferred we draft bigger and if that is true, I would agree with you (as evidenced by my major support of our picks this year), but second round picks are just flyers anyways....

I wanted Dionte Christmas that season. For a 2nd round pick, he would have been good value and worth the pick IMO. Guy was long for a 2 and could score at will.

you're right. we should never try to get value for a 2nd round (or later) pick. they're not worth anything. we never could've used ced ceballos, horny, a gilbert arenas, a carlos boozer, a ginobili, etc. i don't know why we have a scouting staff. sarver's right if he's gutting that department. good lord you have low expectations.

That's not what he meant. His meaning was that even though it would have been nice to have someone that would stick, it's not surprising that he didn't. For every one of those players you mentioned, there have been literally hundreds that didn't work out. No need to go crazy about this.

Exactly, Chap.

Ouchie, I was mildly optimistic about Griffin when we got him. I said on here that if he could develop into a poor man's Malik Rose, we'd be better for it. Think about that. A poor man's Malik Rose. That statement alone indicates what type of impact I expected from Griffin in a best case scenario. I just wanted a bowling ball in the middle of the paint and Griffin COULD HAVE been that, but that he didn't become that is of no consequence to us.

Again, who would you have liked for us to draft last year?

At least they didn't draft Ricky Rubio with the 5th pick.

Is anybody really surprised at this move? More of a formality than anything.

Suns have had some decent success with 2nd round draft picks in the past but aside from Dragic I can't think of any in the last 10 years that have had ANY type of success in the league.

They've only had six second-round picks (not counting 2010), and two of them came in 2009. What do you consider a good hit-miss ratio?

That's a good question. I'll do a little more investigation tonight on what the league average is and see how the Suns stackup. They may very well be ahead of the curve.

Hey, dude has great skills dribbling and passing. Not a very good rebounder or shooter. I wish him luck. Can't say I am shocked by this. I would have cut him, also.

I'm still baffled why the Suns drafted Taylor Griffin to this very day.

It was a head scratcher draft pick and a definite reach to begin with. No surprise here.

I haven't gone though all the players drafted after Taylor, but I didn't recognize any except Dozier who did not get any NBA minutes.

Frankly, I was surprised they took him but hecause the Suns had lots of small forwards and this was before they got more.

Grant Hill
J-Rich
Dudley

Childress
Hedo
Warrick
Clark

He'd have had to have been very good to make the roster let alone play.

I thought we wanted to trade him to Clips for Thornton or what. In the end, Thornton was traded for garbage but we didn't get any use for Taylor. :(

I will always remember him for a time when my roommates and I started bagging on him when we saw him coming off the bench for some garbage time.

First time he touched the ball he started to drive to the lane and then got confused and turned it over.

On the defensive side, he was absolutely abused.

Then the following time up court, he had an open jumper and was not only off center, but way long. His shot ended up hitting the top left of the backboard from a jumper diagonal to the basket.

Needless to say... He will not be missed.

Well, the Suns have had a couple of 2nd round picks that have worked out well for other teams:

Marcin Gortat was the 57th pick in the 2005 draft but was traded away. Has been a very serviceable backup to Dwight Howard.

Stephen Jackson was the 42nd pick in the 1997 draft, but the Suns cut him at the end of training camp. He's had a decent career when he's stayed out of trouble.

Griffin never really had much chance to make it. I think the Suns drafted him mostly for character and to help Clark. I have a much better feeling about Lawal though, as far as second-round picks are concerned.

Like the Suns would have drafted Gortat, if they'd kept the pick... not on D'Antoni's watch!
