The Arizona Cardinals meet the Tennessee Titans this week in a pivotal week 12 matchup. The Titans 4-6 are on the rise after winning 4 in a row and are desperately trying to win out in order to maintain playoff hopes. By comparison, the Cardinals enjoy a cushy lead in their division and appear poised for a return to the playoffs after their 2008 Superbowl run.

When they are on their game and everyone is healthy, the Cardinals offense is simply unstoppable. They hurt you with the run, they hurt you with passes, even their kickers can hurt you with tricky squip kicks, onsides and deep coffin punts that pin opponents deep. They are getting better week by week and most observers can hardly wait to see the Cardinals offense take the field. They haven't even peaked yet but once they find that perfect combination of pass and run, the Cardinals will be thinking big for the rest of this season.

Trap game???

Not hardly. The Cardinals have taken their recent history and turned it on its ear with their play this season. After starting slowly, the Cardinals have won 6 out of 7 games and seem to be gaining momentum with every down they play. Barring time played without QB Kurt Warner, who by all accounts is healthy and will make his 32nd consecutive start against Tenn. on Sunday, the offense has appeared unstoppable in wins against the Rams, Bears and Seahawks. Their run defense is still ranked in the top 10 in the league and their secondary has awakened after a sluggish start. Not only that, but the Cardinals NEED this game. They are tired of the label of ‘pretender’ that is so recklessly applied to them the past two seasons and with a Playoff preview against Minnesota lingering in week 13, a team that beat them badly at home last season, the Cardinals are sure to have all the motivation they need to dispatch the Titans and move on to more important foes. Some might call that overconfidence, or overlooking a team. There's a difference however, between planning for success and hoping for success. Winners just call it planning for success. I believe this team is made up of winners.

This game has a familiar tone for the Cardinals though who before 2008 rarely had a shot at the playoffs this late in the season. However the roles are reversed this time. In the past the Cardinals were always the team either desperate to make a run at the playoffs or in their more familiar role as spoilers. This time it's the Titans who are desperate and for once, the Cardinals get to play the role of 'the big bad wolf'.

The Titans look hungry, there's no doubt about that. It appears clear however, that there were no bricks available when these little piggies built their house midseason. With the resurgence of QB Vince Young it seems as though that team hit the reset button after week 7. They aren't playing great, but they are winning and that's all that matters.

Just when all seems well, here comes that big bad wolf.... The Cardinals are a team with a single-minded goal right now. They are 5-0 on the road and haven't been seriously threatened by anyone. Wide Receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin are in the prime of their careers and QB Kurt Warner is still playing at the highest of levels, though his career is in its twilight. This team is built to win now and it's going to take more than determination to knock them off their course.

The Titans formula for winning their past few games seems sound; run the ball. Titans RB Chris Johnson has averaged 161 yards rushing per game in the Titans 4 game winning streak but consider the opponents they have faced. The 49ers, Jags, Texans and Buffalo average out to be a paltry 20th in the league against the rush. Arizona’s defense not only comes into this game with confidence in stopping the run but they’ve been at their best this year when playing the best (see Frank Gore rushing for 30yards in week one). Regardless of what happens in the running game, Titans QB Vince Young has not shown anyone that he has the ability to win games by throwing the ball. Against an offense as potent as Arizona, he will most likely be forced to do just that in order to stage this upset.

You might ask; This all seems crazy, are you really talking about the Cardinals right now? That's right kids, the Arizona Cardinals are the team on top and the Titans are the ones looking for the upset. How will Arizona handle this new and unprecedented role? In the past you would have guessed that they'd fall flat on the road but this team is different... This team knows exactly where it wants to go and, with all due respect to the Titans, it's going to take more than motivation to beat them. That's what good teams are made of, that's what champions do, that's what the greats call playing with higher purpose.

The Cardinals are on a mission and they won’t be swayed by a 4-6 team hoping to make an unprecedented, never before accomplished, 10-0 run to the playoffs. The Cardinals ultimate destination is a return trip to Florida for Superbowl 44. Unfinished business if you will. Just a Huff from Kurt Warner and the WR's, a Puff from Beanie Wells, Tim Hightower and the running game,,, Adrian Wilson and the Defense should be able to BLOW the Titans playoff hopes down on Sunday.

Go Cardinals!

Nice post Bert------I feel much like you do about this Redbird Team. While they broke slowly at the gate, Whiz has moved them up steadily along the backstretch. Now that they are approaching the far turn, they are poised just behind the leaders, poised to strike.

They ARE playing with a single minded purpose, (Whiz's One Heartbeat). They have each other's backs, and are helping each other out unselfishly. They may be beaten down the stretch, but it will take considerable effort and talent to do so. You will NOT see them coming out of the tunnel without focus or having prepared themselves for battle against top competition. There will be NO more playing down to an opponent, like last year after clinching the division, or like expecting a poorly performing team when they were beat on by the Panthers who showed up for revenge in our house. They will be expecting the best each Sunday, and will be prepared to BEAT THE BEST. In fact they will be EXPECTING to beat the best.

This Cardinal group, unlike any I have seen before, is dangerous. They are skilled, and are deep in talent----but most of all, they have bonded with their Head Coach who taught them to BELIEVE in themselves. They know what is at stake, and they WANT what they were so close to having last year. You can see it in their eyes, and by the ruthlessness of their play once they reach the red zone. You can tell from the refusal by the defense to give in when making a stand, even when multiple attempts have been made to do so. I have a good feeling about this game.

I wish we would have kept Kyle Vanden Bosch, hate seeing him play against us.

TEN is now a three point favorite.

Doesn't mean too much, just that hardened gamblers don't agree that the cards have changed their ways. I guess they're thinking back to last year when we mailed it in against MIN and NE.

But I agree with the original poster that this team is different than last years team, which is weird since it is pretty much the same personnel. The same team leaders. Maybe the coaches have improved the players.

I actually see this game going any number of ways. Look at 6-4 Jacksonville. We dominated them in their house. They have a strong running game and a mobile QB.

But then look at CAR. They killed us with small speedy backs.

We could win by 20 or lose by 20, and either way I won't be too surprised. If good Kurt shows up, I think we probably win by four.

Also agree with the OP that this team is slowly getting better, and that we have a certain confidence that was missing during the season last year.

I'm not sure we've built a "culture of winning" yet, but making plays to win games is starting to become a habit.

The Titans are ranked 2rd in the league in Passing first downs allowed and Passing TD's allowed.

That means it could be tougher than some think playing them, a lot depends on how our defense matches up since the Titans don't tend to score a lot of points.

It'll be a tough game IMO.

Bert,Where you been with your bad self?....Awesome post man.Keep bringin it.:D

I'd say 90+% of the talking head after seeing the MNF game think the titans are the best thing since sliced bread.I'm glad myself we play them ON THE ROAD.

The CARDINALS have'nt won 5 in a row on the road for 60 years and the string is just gonna get longer till we break the 1948 record. For the new Franchise record of ROAD WARRIORS "09" .

Its up to the offensive line this week to Keep Kurt upright and throwing the darts he's gonna keep throwing.Keep that DT Brown out of the backfield and KVB too. Running is gonna be tougher this week but it also will fall on the shoulders of the Offensive line to have a great game against those lb's that play so well for the titans.

They have'nt played anyone like us yet.We like to make HOUSE CALLS!!!!:DGreat job Bert!!!

Seems like if we could muster up at least a couple or maybe even three long clock eating TD drives this might give us a good chance to win. After all if the Titans don't have the ball they can't score.

Combine this with keeping the Titans out of the endzone (force 'em into a FG instead of a TD the few times they hopefully get close to their end zone) and we might be able to pull this one out.

Oh yeah we gotta hang on to the ball too. Minimal penalties as well.

Nope. Beanie is going to out rush Johnson.

Folks, Johnson is not God. And our defense is going to rise up to the challenge. And VY (who i am happy for with his recent success) will lose the game for the Titans. Actually, our offense will rock this weekend.

Let's not think the Titans are the Pats. Because they are not.

Don't the titans have the 31st worst passing defense in the league? How many did the pats hang on them?

They just did beat the 9ers.I watched the game.It was pathetic on both sides.

Even though Okeafor is gonna be delicate for this game he should start and give way to Berry who will also rotate with Beisel playing OLB too.Glad he can play inside and out.His speed may really come in handy this week.Setting the edge is what worries me about him though.

Lets keep them to long 3rd downs and as the best team in the league on 3rd down defense we can stop them or hold them to field goals.

The game comes down to our offensive line and its protection and run blocking.ONE MORE TIME!!!
