we'll keep it in the west.

the spurs didn't get jason kidd, but they did get better. they lost robinson to retirement, but picked up nesterovic. nesterovic isn't what david robinson once was, but he's proble better than robinson was last year.

-they keep tony parker who is younger and is a a fast learner, but still has his mistakes. anyone notice how parker all of the sudden was shooting the floater more after the suns series. i'm thinking he took some moves from marbury. maybe not, but thats a good way to learn. copy someone, who can beat you.

their roster so far:

Bruce Bowen
Devin Brown
Anthony Carter
Tim Duncan
Emanuel Ginobili
Robert Horry
Stephen Jackson (FA)
Ron Mercer
Radoslav Nesterovic
Tony Parker
Malik Rose
Steve Smith (FA)
Hidayet Turkoglu
Kevin Willis

they added: anthony(take my money) carter, rasho nesterovic, ron mercer, robert horry and Hidayet turkoglu.

lost: robinson, steve kerr, anyone else???

most likley stephen jackson won't be resigned, and steve smith might not either. on paper the spurs got deeper too. is it enough to repeat in a western conference that got tougher? seem like it might, but there is a lot fo new faces for the world champs.

I think that San Antonio is the best team in the league, along with Los Angeles.

I am a huge Admiral fan, but he was getting old, and he really wasn't doing that much. I think Nesterovic is an improvement over the aging Admiral.

Two players that I think are very important are Hedo and Manu. After Tim Duncan, Manu was Spurs best player in the playoffs.

Hedo is loaded with potential, but didn't get a chance in Sacramento last year.

Tony Parker will continue to improve, and the Spurs will be a very scary team.

My money is still on the Lakers, but if anybody is going to beat them it's San Antonio, or a healthy Sacramento team.

I think you are greatly overrating Hedo Turkoglu.

That said, SA is still a great team.

I don't know Chap, I think he is every bit as good as Peja Stojakovic. His shooting is not as good, but again, nobody shoots as well as Peja, but Hedo play good D, and can play 1, 2 or 3 equally well. He is also very athletic.

Parker/Ginobilli/ Turkoglu on 1, 2 and 3 scare the living crap out of me.

The only guy of those 3 that I'm really worried about going off is probably Manu. I like Parker as a player, but he'll never reach Stephon Marbury/Steve Francis status.

You have to remember Parker's age. The kid is not even close to his full potential. I agree that he will never be Stephon Marbury though.

They're very different types of players. And who said Steve Francis was all that good anyway?(he's not a "real all-star":D)

The Spurs lost Speedy Claxton who played very well for them in the playoffs and did it whenever Parker was having troubles. I'm not sure when they lost Danny Ferry but it seems to me he played in the series against us... I guess if he's not that memorable he can't be a big loss. I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Willis called it quits before the season gets under way, if he hasn't already.

PG: Carter for Claxton is a downgrade and perhaps a big one, depending on how well Carter adapts. Parker figures to improve so maybe it's a wash compared to last year, but it's iffier, for sure.

SG: Manu should improve a bit and having 'Turk' in place of Stephon Jackson looks to be a plus. Besides they have a super defender in Ron Mercer.

SF: Ace defender Bowen is back and they have a choice of Hedo and Malik Rose coming off the bench. Horry is another new option here, for occasional duty.

PF: TD is still TD. Main backup Rose is in place, too. Add Horry and probably subtract Willis... probably no change from last year.

C: When it comes to a crunch situation I think Robinson last year was better than Nesterovic will be this next year but overall I'd say the latter is a small upgrade because the Admiral was ailing a lot.

Overall, it looks to me like the Spurs improved some and they certainly have a tremendous amount of flexibility. But the chemistry was good last year and four new players (Hedo, Carter, Mercer and Horry) add some risk in that domain.

I think Sacramento will miss 'Nose' alot. He is a very talented ball player, that like Stefan said didn't get the chance in Sac to step out. A better then average shooter that can create on his own. thus probably pushing out Stephen Jackson.

I understand with Turk, they are crowded at the 3, but even before they signed him why were they so keen in getting rid of Stephen Jackson? Purely for Salary reasons? He seemed to be one of their most important players... and that being... as he's a free agent, the talk of where he might sign hasn't been hyped at all.

I also think the presence of David robinson alone was a huge factor. He will be missed greatly as one of their leaders... but with the additionals this team will be very deep with role players.

Maybe is won't be like watching grass grow anymore when I watch them.... in saying that they are the champs... just very mechanical...and slighty boring

there has been talk of stephan jackson to denver, but then there has been talk about everybody who ever was a free agent going to denver this season.......

I dont think the Spurs will win it again this year......

Unless the Kings are healthy or Big Jake has had leg transplants, the lakers will probably win it......

Yep, I confused Mercer with Artest... I guess I ought to apologize to Artest for that slip up.
